Giving a pet a pill

Do you have a pet? Have you ever had to give that pet a pill?
I used to have a dog, and it was easy. Wrap that pill in ham and she would gulp it right down. Cheese worked, too.
I have had lots of cats and have yet to find a super good way to give them pills. One of my friends, who is a vet tech, taught me to stick the pill way in the back of the cat's mouth, hold their mouth closed and blow in their face, and they would swallow it. What happened then was that my cat would spit that pill right back in my face.
Mix it with wet food? Cat will not eat the food.
So, with one cat (and it is working for my current cat too), I crushed up the pill, mixed it with a little butter, and wiped it firmly on her front paw on top. Cats hate to be dirty and they will lick and lick until they are clean. Yes!!!
My other cat liked butter. This one likes dried fish flakes. So I mixed the pill with butter and fish flakes, wiped it on paw, and presto, one pill down the cat.
The way I know she took it is that the pill has a blue color. When her paw is perfectly white, I know she licked it all off!

With our dogs, we crush the pill and mix it with condensed milk in a spoon. That is one easy way.

@petatonicsca dry cat food is better than the canned.

Condensed milk. I bet my cat would like that too, but she would not lick it out of a spoon. My cat who liked butter also liked purin (Japanese egg custard, flan) and yogurt, and would lick out any container after I ate the contents. She also liked beans. Funny cat. My current cat only likes crunchy cat food. She doesn't even like canned cat food.

Dogs will eat it. Cats are too smart for that. I even had a cat once who ate the whole bowl of food and left the little pill in the corner, licked off.

@m_audrey6788 She'd starve first. Or the food would go bad. The butter-on-the-paw trick is so far the one that works the best, until she figures out that when she sees me with a spoon she should run.

Good for you. That's very clever thinking. And I guess the moral of the story is - get yourself a cat with white paws!

Currently I don't have any pets with me now. But I also give medicine to them on mixing with food when they needed.

Dogs will usually eat pretty much anything.
