Back in the ER Thursday Night

United States
June 20, 2020 11:40pm CST
I couldn't take the pain any more, and had to go to the ER. When I arrived I was only one there, but they told me they were booked I would be sitting a second or two. I got called in sat in a chair in a hallway, then they moved me to a bed in the hallway, then transferred to a room. Ran all kinds of test and my left kidney as the doctor says is stretched. He says there is a large stone there. They did not do a ct scan to see the size, if it is bigger than the last time. Gave me three iv's of medication, because the pain would not go away. The bad thing is. When I arrived I could no longer get a urine sample, I hadn't been able to go since the morning. When i was finally able to , it was all red, from the stone. Finally at 1:30 in the morning, it was time to leave, I called for my daughter, but they make you wait outside in the dark, you can't wait inside, and you have a long way to walk to the exit. I almost fell down, because I was filled with so much medicine very dizzy, but they didn't wheel me out to the bench outside to wait. They really need to allow people to wait inside, totally not safe. I finally got a hold of my urologist office, after waiting on the phone 1 1/2 hours. I get to meet an advice nurse on Thursday the 25th, the advice nurse will go out of the room tell the doctor what I had to say and then tell me what the doctor says. I can not meet directly with him.. They say he hasn't gotten back to me because he is entirely backed up.. Still no excuse, I am in pain, and been waiting since May.

What you needed was an ultrasound to know the size and the number of stones. Anyway, the new procedure now is lithotripsy which crushes the stone using soundwaves.

@Alexandoy He saw only one, the one in the kidney, but in the past they saw the one in the pelvis, I knew I didn't pass it, because too big The doctor actually performed the ultra sound, he didn't want to do a CT scan, but , when I returned to ER the next doctor, had a CT scan and she made it on CD for me to take to the urologist, so I had it with me.

That's already an ordeal to keep you waiting since May until now. Is there no other doctors in the hospital?

That doesn’t sound like a very good ER. Not even a nurse walked you outside.

@CookieMonster46 Thanks. It was quiet, but fun when our son came. The phone calls, etc. helped make it special.

Wow, I know the rules have changed at hospitals since COVID has arrived, but I thought you would still get better treatment than that. You should have received better service than that. They want us to call these medical professionals heroes, but what hero would not treat a patient with more dignity? I hope you are able to get everything resolved with your kidney stone. I'm sure you would just like the ordeal to be over so you can return home and be eased of your pain.

No, with Covid, we have to arrive alone, no visitors, which makes it hard, she had to go back home and come back again.
