Two 7.4 magnitude earthquakes in 6 days

Japan
June 24, 2020 4:05am CST
Last week on June 18 there was a 7.4 earthquake off New Zealand. It shook pretty hard (7 on the Mercalli scale of 12, indicating strength of shaking as opposed to Richter scale) and today 7.4 in Mexico. The Mercalli scale of shaking for that was 8. Mexico had more damage and unfortunately a few deaths. The Mexican quake was on land, which usually results in more damage. Just for interest's sake, these are on opposite sides of the Pacific plate and both related to the subduction of the Pacific plate. I hope nobody has to stay in evacuation shelters because of earthquakes (or any other reason) during the pandemic. I need to put summer clothes in my emergency kit. I am always telling other people to do that but I haven't done it myself yet! Do you have an emergency kit? Don't forget to put some masks in!

We don't have an emergency kit but it would be a very sensible idea. Our biggest need would be in case of a bushfire.

@petatonicsca Yes, we have several! We do have our photo albums all together and our hard drive so that's a start.

My earthquake kit has had its name changed to emergency kit because so far I've used it during storms (flashlight) and pandemic (masks and hand sanitizer). There is a lot of overlap in things you might need in any emergency, so might as well make one. Don't you have a small suitcase hanging around doing nothing?

New Zealand nobody was hurt and no property damage. It just scared them. It was offshore so they worried about tsunami but they didn't have one. I know a bunch of people in and from NZ and it was only felt near the epicenter.

@petatonicsca Great. They are very isolated to send fast help.

I need to check out my medicine kit too. I use things like bandages from it and forget to put more in.

Yup. Mask should be included in the emergency kit nowadays

I already included masks because if I had to go to an emergency shelter there would be lots of people, some with colds or flu. Also earthquakes make dust fly around. So when the pandemic started and all our mask supply was bought out of our stores, I had plenty.

Unfortunately, we don’t have emergency kit but I see that it’s really important so i think we should really have one

In the Philippines I would definitely make one. You can just pack a few things that you already have into one spot. I have even stored all my bandages and disinfectant cream in it so I know where it is at all times but I can grab and go if necessary.

@petatonicsca I think it would really be important since we’re also prone to earthquakes and typhoons.

The earth is shaking again. Hu hu. Thanks for reminding me about the kit. We call it go-bag here. Will have to check the contents. But I did ask me daughter, when the earthquake happens, where do I go?

Actually no. Am not an organized person and like to complete things at the last moment

It's my first time to know that earthquakes is going on in NZ,though what i can say be alert during this times. In every circumstances, we need to pray. Our God is our refuge. He is there to protect us and not let anything or anybody to harm us.
