Rice is staple food in indonesia. And it is well known that it has large population, around 260 million people. I can't imagine how many tons of rice needed to feed people. It is clear that our paddy ricefield has been shrinking because of human activity, like building factory, public space and residential area.
So, Indonesia has to import rice from other countries to feed people, especially from Thailand and Vietnam.

American doesn’t eat a lot of rice we are a wheat person lots of wheat fields. Although in my house we do eat more rice base things because my youngest is allergic to things with wheat in them.

Instant noodle made of wheat and wheat doesnt grow in indonesia. All is imported. Much worse than rice
