Buying Etiquette and My Anxiety Riddled Brain

United States

I believe that facebook marketplace as well as facebook groups should have one standard etiquette to be followed. If a buyer does not follow the etiquette, the seller can refuse to meet, refuse to sell etc. Of course, I know that it's more complicated than all that. I am anxious! I made a free entertainment center posting the day before yesterday. I received a "bite" today, and thought the woman would actually show. Here it is 4:15 and the piece of furniture is still sitting outside. Did she arrive, decide she didn't want it, and leave? I don't know, but if so, she should have messaged me a "thanks, but no thanks." I've decided I am taking the listing down tomorrow, even if the person doesn't show. There's one more charitable organization in my area I can try, and I'll try that. If not, we will just have to find a way to secure it somewhere in the backyard where critters can't make it their home. I was not cut out for this type of selling.

Donating is so much easier. Rudeness is everywhere today.

Right, I should have gone the donating route first. I just hadn't thought there were so many services that would be willing to pick up. I sent the person a message, hopefully they respond. If they don't respond by tonight, I'm going to say they aren't coming at all. I'm taking the listing down tonight.

@CarolDM I wish there was more kindness and respect in this world. It seems some of these things are taken for granted.

Thee are also the Veterans and Purple Heart (I think) that take donations.

I took all listings down. Messaged the woman that was interested and told her it would be out there until Monday.

I think people are more rude and thoughtless concerning free things than stuff they have to pay for.

Right. I feel like I should just ask if her she's still interested. That would probably help with my anxiety. If it were me, I would have said "I'm sorry, but I've changed my mind." That way a person isn't wondering. Thoughts are spinning around in my head about how they now know where I live.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you should try another marketplace with more comprehensive guidelines.

Every place is about the same. I'm just going to try for a charitable organization.

The person should have let you know that they changed their mind.

I ended up messaging them and they told me they couldn't fit in their car.

This is rude. Today we have lots of communication modes to inform the seller.

Right, but it seems a lot of people don't think about being polite.
