Road Trip Planning...

How's it going? It's Monday night in my world and I am just getting some of my plans together for a last-minute road trip I am taking with my mom and my two sisters. Original, pre-covid plan was to #1 Take my mom on a birthday trip to Las Vegas in July - just as a "surprise gift" to her, since she has not been to Vegas since she was pregnant with my older sister, like 33 years ago. I am sure it looked much different back then. THAT is obviously not going to happen - am certainly NOT going to a place where it's so crowded with people. And partying. And indoor surfaces where people touch with their COVID fingers. Ha ha.
The other trip I had planned on - #2 for the summer - was before my little sister goes off to college (only about 2 hours away from home, but she is living in a dorm and I won't see her very often at all!) - we were planning to go on a sisters trip to San Francisco. I got really into researching for this, we had wanted to stay somewhere near Fisherman's Wharf, Haight Ashbury, Castro, The Mission - and possibly a quick day tour of Alcatraz, check out the Full House house, and some other sight seeing around. THAT will not be happening.
Instead, we are taking a good old road trip from here, in Minnesota through South Dakota, through the Badlands National Park (doesn't look like there is much for hiking, but a nice drive away, and a chance to scratch Badlands off my bucket list!), stay overnight in rural South Dakota, drive through Cheyenne, WY (maybe stop and walk around for a bit), and then go to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where we are staying in a remote-ish cabin, will do some hiking in the park, some scenic drives, enjoy our private hot tub, and keep a low profile while vacationing. I actually kind of prefer it that way, call me crazy! Then we will be driving back through Nebraska, staying overnight in rural Iowa.
Attached is a pic of my "road trip planning" items. It has been possibly 20 years since I have been on what I call a "long haul" road trip. In fact, I don't like being in cars much. It tests my patience, especially when I know I could have flown and gotten there in 1/100th of the time. In total, it's about 29 hours of driving. Yikes.
I want to learn to LIKE road trips though. I have some podcasts downloaded, some music playlists downloaded, I created some "road trip Bingo", am bringing some books.
WHAT ELSE WILL MAKE A LONG ROAD TRIP BEARABLE? ANY IDEAS?
And do you have any road trips planned?

That is going to be some trip, I sure hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to write it all down and take lists of photos, I really used to enjoy road trips but never took such a long one as you're taking.

Good heavens that is a long road trip. I hope you have fun. I am NOT going on a road trip, not with the Virus happening. Hubby is having a vacation in October but I seriously doubt we will be going West this time around. Maybe next year. I am grateful for his company and my bit of acreage and that is our vacation. At home.

That is good. I think that's part of it. I need to get away. We are going to be in secluded areas and that helps. I know everyone is in their own place and have their own ideas of what is "right" what with COVID. I do feel like it's going to be around for a while, but I will feel totally better about things when there is a vaccine out. But your idea of staying home is definitely the safest option, I think!
