There’s been a lot of birthday cake going around North America this week. On July 1 Canada celebrated 153 years as a nation, while July 4 marked the 244th birthday of the United States. So, let’s celebrate in song! I’m counting down ten favorite Canadian artists (and ten favorite songs by Canadian artists, which will come later), as well as ten favorite with “America” in the title. Oh, yes, that’ll be on the list. Meanwhile, let’s take off to the Great White North, eh? #10: Bachman-Turner Overdrive Randy Bachman was a staple in another band that’s going to show on this list, the Guess Who. He quit that band as they were topping the US charts, due to health (gallbladder) and religion (he had become a Mormon after marrying a Mormon woman) issues. Fast forward a few years, and as the Guess Who (oh, go on, guess who!) began to fade the band that Randy formed with his brothers Robbie and Tim and Fred Turner began to gain popularity. Different from the Guess Who in that they were far more hard rocking, BTO became quite popular in the mid-70s. Their song “Takin’ Care of Business” has been featured in a number of commercials, keeping their legacy alive. In 2014 Bachman-Turner Overdrive was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Bachman-Turner Overdrive From Winnipeg, Manitoba Formed: 1973 One of the biggest hits from BTO:

Funny title for someone who appears to be unemployed. As he states in the lyrics he just "loves to work at nothing all day." Terrific single as our 'Let It Ride" and my personal favorite "Roll on down the Highway."

I saw BTO in concert somewhere in the mid-80s. They were the opening act for Van Halen when I saw them in Ft. Lauderdale. The only song I knew from them was Taking Care of Business. Didn't really pay much attention to them as the opening act, because I was there solely to see VAN HALEN! lol

My brother loved this song. I did as well. And Let it Ride was another favorite.
