The Queen is Done!

Afghan, that is. Though, to be honest while it's width is queen size, it's length isn't. It's still enough that it covers me from feet to shoulders which is what I was really after. I could have kept going, but I wasn't really looking for something to cover my bed. I was looking for something to cover me, and this does. No mistakes with this one. No dropped stitches and the tension is good. I need to learn a different join method as I used the knot method for this. I have two and a half skeins of this charcoal left over that I need to figure out what to do with. This is the DC blanket

That's lovely AmberLynn, you did a beautiful job! Hey, maybe you could crochet a seat cover, for a chair in the same room:) Gray is one of my favorite colors

I was thinking about crocheting a seat cover for the back of this chair actually. I feel like it wouldn't be so hard for me to do. I could do it like an afghan, but measure the chair and then join the work on two sides. Thanks for the idea!

@ScribbledAdNauseum You're welcome young lady, just a very small version of your lovely afghan.

@kobesbuddy Yes, now I just need to think about the color I want to use. This chair is a turquoise color, so maybe I will use purple.

Nice blanky! I have several UFO's in my closet that I need to either make into lap blankets or just finish them up. I made several afghans for my grandchildren, my children, my sister, and mother. This was many years ago. I did them using granny squares that had a butterfly design. Everyone loved them. I used up my stash of yarn that I had gathered for over 20 years so that was a win win. For my mother's and sister's afghan, I had them choose the colors and bought the yarn.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yarn is so hard to find lately. The few times I ventured into Walmart, I found the shelves to be nearly empty. There is a t-shirt yarn that I found to make ties for masks with. It is heavy, but more for placemats or throw rugs. You could make your own using old t-shirts and making the cut smaller so the yarn will be thinner. I like Lion Brand yarns for bulky yarns. Some are really soft and I have used them for scarfs too.

@ElusiveButterfly I noticed that walmart.com didn't really have any. I haven't gone into walmart in a long time. I used to go to three different grocery stores to get the most out of the money I spent, but now it's just my most local grocery store. I've considered making yarn out of tshirts actually, since I've got a lot of clothes that I want to donate. The problem is that I don't have a lot of t-shirts. Most of my shirts are different / thinner material. I like Lion Brand Hometown USA. I bought Wool Ease Thick And Quick because it was recommended for a blanket tutorial I was following a couple of months ago, but I don't really like the yarn. I think it pills too easily.

Thank You. I need to remember to give myself more tail to weave in. I have a habit of making it shorter which doesn't work out too well for me. I have hooks coming from Joann's (if they ever ship it!) and so I'll be graduating to hooks again soon. Going to need to get #4 yarn though. I want to try a granny square as I love them so much. I am going to try to find a variegated yarn and make a simple blanket for my friends. Do you know of any brand that has a nice pretty variegated yellow by chance? Something in the bulky weight category?

That looks nice. Maybe I should try to learn to crochet from Youtube too. I once learned the Daisy stitch, but that was years ago.

I would recommend Jayda In Stitches if you ever do want to learn. She does pretty good tutorials. I find it relaxing. I've now graduated on to using hooks and have to get used to that.

Thank You. Yes I am happy with it. My mother crocheted, and I tried to learn years ago but I gave up. Now I am trying again and more proud because of it.

Thank You. The charcoal color has grown on me. At first I didn't like it, but I think it goes well with the toucan grey / yellow color.

@DianneN Ah, I have not watched HGTV in many years. I was fond of Love It or List it for awhile though.

Thank you. That is so sweet of you to say. I love doing this and it makes me feel closer to my mom as well. I feel like I am going to become very addicted to it too. I've already crocheted two afghans and am in the process of another! Each with different stitches so I can have a useful practice item.

@LindaOHio Yes, I am going to practice - practice - practice and make some kitchen crochet stuff for my friends for Christmas, perhaps also a blanket. I haven't decided & really it depends on whether I will be able to afford the yarn I need.

Thank you. I am practicing so that when I gift my friends with blankets, they will be high quality and something I am proud of. It also makes me feel closer to my mom, who loved to crochet.

@LadyDuck Thank You. As I've told on mylot before, I have several of the things she crocheted. I just found another that had been put in another room. It's a simple coaster in pink and blue. I think those were two of her favorite colors to crochet in.

Actually, I used the double crochet stitch which makes it more of a summery blanket. I used it last night and as very comfortable.

This was just a happy accident. The grey / neon green is actually one skein called Toucan from Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick.
