Short story: Hidden wisdom is often obtained from over the back fences in our lives. Back fence wisdom!

Lionel lived next to an old lady, who he used to talk to over the back fence.
Lionel liked to talk to her, for she always seemed to talk so wisely on nearly every subject that he spoke to her about.
And so, Lionel compiled a list of some of the sayings that she used in her speech, as used by her on various occasions, when they had talked together.
They were all short and sharp, and they all contained great wisdom in them, well, at least he thought so, anyway.
Here they are, well, at least this is his first page of them:
When one is lost, who gets found first, your lostness, or the way.
The emptiness of a barrel of bread depends on the one filling it up everyday.
The life of anyone never depends on the one living it, but more on the ones around him, when he lets them affect him so.
The greatest efforts never can find the greatest freedom. Freedom is effortlessness alive, not struggled for.
Overexamination of self leads one away from the self. Patience finds the patient.
Life is only a problem to fools, fooling themselves about life.
Love is always the wisest path to take.
We all see the same fence, but we lean over it differently, according to our needs to whim, or not whim.
You need to take your chances to become wise. You can learn not best from mistakes, if you do not make them first.
When the old girl died, Lionel read out a few of these sayings at her funeral.
Everybody was surprised at how wise this dear little old lady really was, or had been.
Most people had tried to ignore her, and never stopped to chat things over with her, but Lionel, was different, and by the end of his own life, he was nearly as wise as this old lady had been too.
We learn from others when we recognise the learnings in those others.
Lionel had gained his own richness in life from his old neighbour.

Never prejudge the wiseness of anyone, and you might be surprised by their wisdom, as Lionel was here.

You are soool right. God endowed with skills others don't have. And sometimes our wisdom is not visible to others, nevertheless, this should not be the reason to understimate others.
We cannot compare ourselves to others too and vice versa.
Do you also write on Wattpad?

Thanks for commenting on my story. No, I didn't know about Wattpad. I just looked it up, it is a site for story writers.
I also write on virily, another writing site. It's enough for me at the moment.
Yes, we should be ourselves, while allowing others to be themselves too.
We really learn from others when we are all being ourselves. Otherwise, we are just playing games with each other, I think.

@Janet357 Thanks. Yes, I see it is free and easy to join too. I will check it out a bit more. There are stories to read there too, and I also like to read good short stories.

I have read the wisdom of the old lady and I am convinced that her wisdom is nothing than a wisdom.

Thanks. I made those sayings up pretty well then. I tried to make them sound wise.

I meet many wise old women and men who do not have formal education.
They have wisdom and what it takes to survive.
Nowadays, people tend to think those who are not in your face with their gadgets are irrelevant and get ignored especially by the young. However in times of crisis, like now, tried and tested methods are what it takes to remain sane. What is in fashion now proves fleeting.
I am like Lionel, never miss an opportunity to tap hidden gems from those uncut and ignored diamonds - siva

Ha, ha, I could have been writing about you then here, siva.
I also try to listen to wise people, wise from life.
I find that we can learn the best tips from them about how to really live a life of greater understanding and connection to others too.

@innertalks I recall some women who I had the fortune to meet. They had so much love to give without expecting anything in return.
In my childhood, people used to walk in unannounced and the women folks were so happy to welcome them and see to it that they left well fed. Sadly, such times are history now.
Then again, they found so much contentment in simple pleasures of life like inquiring about the welfare of others. They exhibited much goodwill that looks more of wishful thinking now though we can blame it on a faster paced lifestyle - siva

@Shiva49 Yes, something good has been lost. We are becoming too intolerant of others, and seldom have enough patience with others either.
Patience and tolerance are the two keys to trying to understand others, and to get along with them, and of course, having love for our fellow man, helps us to do this too.
