Short story: John's flying dreams allowed him to see the bigger picture view of his life.

Johns last dream really chaired him to himself!

Most nights, in his dreams, John would find himself flying through the air, in some way, or another. Usually, he would be flying along, in his own body, alone. Last night, though, John also had a flying dream, but this time, it was just a little bit different than his usual flying dreams. John was dreaming that he was in a large hall, with many other people in it too. John was seated on a wooden chair, and then two young kids jumped up onto his lap on the chair. They knew, somehow, that John could fly. So, John flew with them on the chair, with the chair, all around the room. John was using his mind strength, concentrated onto the task of flying, to do so, but it was harder for him to do this, with the extra weight on board. John had to concentrate and focus on the strength of his thought of flying, even more to so, to avoid his dropping down again. Possible meanings for John's dream Dreams about flying generally show us that we are flying through life because of our inner understanding of how life works, and yet here John also realises that it is the strength of his own thinking that either lifts him up, or pulls him down, or allows him to stay where he is. In the air, John feels that he is above his problems, and that he has left them all far beneath/behind him then too. This is why John enjoys his flying dreams. He is always happy to be flying. John's psychologist told John, that he was probably unhappy in his waking life, and that he felt that he had no understanding or power to control its working. Alf, the psychologist, then went on to tell John that flying allowed John to have a bird's eye view over things, and to have the chance to realise also that this method of escape never works in real life, unless you really do jump out of your limited thinking, and attach it to your soul's wider purpose for your life, instead. In this dream, this particular flying dream shows John that as his soul, he will see above his everyday thoughts, and really sit down in his life, as his real self, with his mind, and his emotions, as depicted by the two kids, here in tow with him too, enjoying the ride also. John needs to realise that he is his soul reaching down to living a human life, not just his human self, trying to reach up to live a spiritual life (A very perceptive psychologist indeed. I wish that Alf was my own psychologist too!!) Photo Credit: The photo used in this article was sourced from the free media site, pixabay.com John's last dream really chaired him to himself!

I have been dreaming several times that I'm flying. As I have from the book of dreams, flying high is referring to high aspirations or ambitions in life.

@Nakitakona Yes, l would agree with that counsel, mostly. Sometimes, it is nice, to share a dream though. There are some examples of shared dreams in the Bible.

@innertalks You're right. I remember our Church leader who give counsel to those who share their dreams. He said dreams are for personal consumption.

Yes, that's true. We all need something to help motivate us in our lives sometimes. Our dreams can help us in this regards too.

@amitkokiladitya Yes, that type of a dream can stretch us into making bigger goals, and encourage us to strive to achieve them then too.

I also have dreams of being able to fly from time to time. I would find that real useful in real life.

@innertalks I do find that the dreams where I'm flying are amongst the more pleasant dreams.

@kanuck1 Yes, so do I, now that you mention it. I seem to be above all of my problems, and feeling at great ease, in control, with a certain power in me too, when I fly in dreams.

Ha, ha, so would l. It would be useful for crossing over busy roads, which l have used it before, in my dreams for, too. I do that a lot in my dreams; busy roads never bother me there in my dreams. I just fly up and over them, then keep walking again.

I had a dream of flying about when I was quite young. It has not repeated though. I used to think why that left a lasting impression on me. I agree we cannot divorce ourselves from the realities of this world going after a spiritual path. That would be a lost opportunity as we may not taste life here hereafter. Dreams are an escape hatch as we can hang on dreams to our hearts content. For a poor man, his dreams could be sweeter than real life while for the very rich they could turn out to be nightmares! siva

Yes, l use them as an escape from this world, or, even as a magic wand, to bring me answers from within, from another world. I have had flying dreams during all of my life. I loved having them as a kid too. I fly in different ways too. Sometimes, I have to take a running leap into the air like a plane taking off, and I fly horizontally then; other times, I just beam straight upwards vertically, like on StarTrek. Still other times, I need to flap my arms to get airborne, or tread down with my feet, as you do when treading water at the beach, to stay up in the air.

@Shiva49 Yes, I agree. There is something going on here, something, someone, is trying to get a message of some sort through to us, in order for us to rescue ourselves from ourselves, and so to give us the chance to live a more aware life.

@innertalks I agree there should be some inner meanings to our dreams, maybe, it is a way our soul is communicating with us about the possibilities that we may not be able to connect with for now - siva

Wow that is a beautiful description of the dreaming, and of the interpretation I used to have a reoccurring dream of flying

Thanks. I have several different reoccurring dream themes. One is rather strange, as it only ever happens every time that I change my car, and get a new one. I always dream that my new car is either stolen, or smashed up by someone, or myself, in an accident. Maybe, I think deep down than I do not deserve such another new car again...lol...an inferiority complex with cars... Sometimes, I wake up then, and I am glad that I still have my new car outside, not stolen, nor smashed up.

@innertalks I hope you don't have that car dream again. You deserve good things, Steve. :-) I had a car one, too, though mine is different. I used to dream I was in the BACK seat of the car, and the car was going down the road. I could just barely reach the wheel, draping myself over the backs of the seats to reach with my finger tips, trying to scramble over into the front seat.... I wonder if mine wasn't a feeling of helplessness over control of my own life.

@FayeHazel Yes, the obvious answer might mean that you are a "back-seater" driver to your own life. You are more observing from the back seat, because driving from the front seat is too much of a stretch for you, so you try to drive it from the back instead. So, a feeling of helplessness could be the right meaning here. I have had a dream a bit like that, where I was driving a bus from the rear of the bus. The bus also was very hard to control. I was dreaming that I was driving a bus, but from the rear of the bus, not the front. The driving area was at the rear. It was hard for me to see out of the front window, all the way down the long bus, yet alone to see anything on the sides of the front where our peripheral vision normally operates for us, if we are up the front of the bus, looking out from there. I was driving fast, and recklessly, just the same, though. Then I arrived home, to my house, but I parked the bus, not outside of my house on the road, but in a large shopping center car-park, not far from where I lived in this dream. The possible meaning for me? Departing from the norm, being yourself in a way that is bad for you is not good for you either. This is not our real self, working backwards like this. Our real self works normally, as do all other real selves, and I parked it, the bus, close to my home alright, because it is my soul, my real vehicle in my life. I need to look through my heart, at the front of my soul, not through the back of my mind first, where any driving of my life will be reckless and dangerous for me, like it was here.
