USA kicking out some international college students

I'm sure you've seen it in the news. The US organization ICE (yeah, hearts of ice) has decided that if students on college student visas are attending a college that is fully remote for the next school year, that they will have to leave, or if they are currently in their home country they won't be allowed back in. This is a bad move in a number of ways. 1. They're missing out on the brain power of these students. 2. They're not considering that some will have no country to go to, since many countries are not accepting entries from US persons. So they are stuck. 3. They are losing college revenue. 4. They're making a bad name for themselves. If you went to a US college, check to see if your alma mater is going fully online or not, and if they are, how can they help their international students? Contact them with your concerns. Let your representative know that this is a bad idea, especially for the students who are stuck in the US, and also for the colleges. Here is an article about the situation.
International students may have to leave the U.S. if their universities switch to online-only courses during the coronavirus pandemic, Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced on Monday, or they could risk deportation.

Wow, our country keeps making one boneheaded decision after another! *sigh*

@petatonicsca It has already blown up in the news here locally. Yes, I went to the University of Florida. The university is going to fight this. I also saw in the news this morning that two universities have already filed lawsuits. I'm sure many others will soon join in on the lawsuits or file their own.

Yep. You got a representative? You got an alma mater? Tell them about what you think.

I had read that news and it is a sorry declaration for foreign students who are enjoying their stay in the US.

Yes. A lot of my school's graduates fit that description since we are an international school. There are so many of my former students who are going to have a big problem. It's scary.

@petatonicsca the problem is the enrollment of those students, how can they transfer to a local school if they are kicked out of the US.

@Alexandoy They can't, and the suggestion that they transfer to a US college that is having in-person classes is going to take more time than they have.

I saw that on the news and my jaw dropped. I have not fully read their reasoning for it - but I honestly don't think there is any good reason for making these students go home .

There is no good reason except *some people* like any reason to kick foreigners out.

@petatonicsca It's terrible. I hope they can reverse that somehow . . . it really makes no sense. And what will happen to those who cannot go back to their countries . . . like if they are not allowing those from the US to come into their country?

Yes, I did see that this morning. I'm not surprised, because our prez paid someone to take his own SATs.

This is really tough. Thankfully, we're not kicking students out yet. Indeed many backpackers in our country are stuck here as they can't get back to their own homes.

There are many people from other lands that have helped the US become a great country. I will just remind all of you of Albert Einstein. But I could give you a big list. This is a shame.
