Library finally opening here in NYC but it won't be the same for now...

July 13th, the libraries in NYC are finally opening up, however, it is only select branches in each of the five boroughs. For now, it is only grab-and-go. This means you have to place books on hold and then come to pick them up. You can't be in the library browsing for books to take out. Thankfully, the library by my house is one of the libraries that will be open. I can't wait to start reading again. I just have to figure out what books to place on hold. I usually do not place books on hold unless it's a book by an author I've read before. I just browse for stuff that may interest me and then take it out. It won't be that easy to figure out what books to place on hold... Maybe I will see what books I have in my Want to Read on Goodreads first and go from there. Have libraries opened up in your area yet?

Are they fully operational or do they offer limited services?

I have no idea if our library is open now. We have a school summer vacation now.

Me too. Nothing like holding a book in your hands and flipping its pages. I also like the smell of books, especially old ones.

I'm not sure if our libraries are back open yet. I live just down the street from our main branch, and I drive by it every day, but I don't remember seeing cars there in the parking lot. I'll have to pay closer attention next time I go by.

@lovebuglena Yes, it was possible it was just the workers, or maybe they had big cleaning crews come in and give everything a thorough cleaning and sanitization.

I saw cars in my library parking lot but based on the email I got from the NYPL libraries not open yet but will on the 13th. Maybe it was just the workers getting things ready.

We have to place our order online and pick books up outside. I'm just reading whatever I have in the house for now and ordering online.

I found a four books hubby had and read those. And I did order a few books online that I already read. Nothing else to read in the house that I have not read already.

There's no public library near my home. Also, Archive.org has great selection of digital books to borrow.

It's good that your libraries are opening again. I'm not sure when ours will open again. Only time will tell.

My library have been open since last month just for drive-thru and curbside pick-ups for library holds and reserves. We can drop off books in bins in front of library, though they won't be checked out in a week. My library is open only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. No inter-library loans since it's suspended. Some is better than nothing. Fees are waived.

@lovebuglena Good questions. You can only drop off books on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays too. I might have to do it this weekend. Same. But that's how my library is doing it now and for the time being.

@KristenH I think we can return books here any day the libraries are open.

I think my library is open every day but Sunday with altered hours. I wonder how returns are in my library. I prefer to return to a person rather than throw books in the bin.
