The last time I volunteered to do is to accompany my friend. He was so desperate for being depressed over something. We had a great time eating in a restaurant while talking about his stressors in life. In the end, he felt relied on that there is someone who is listening to him. Are you a good listener? I think I am a good listener. It helps a person if they can talk to someone about their problems.

I agree. These days, it is really hard to find someone who can listen to our sentiments. Unless if they are in myLot.

@Shavkat That's true. Many people don't really want to listen to another's troubles.

I'm a good listener, actually. I've listened to the problems which my friends shared with me. Though I can't help them in clearing the problem, I can still help them to clear out what's distressing their mind, by listening to them. That way, they may feel somewhat relieved.

Sometimes we cannot help them with particular problems. Being with them, it is enough to make them feel relief.

That’s nice you did that for him. The last thing I recall volunteering to do was to clean garbage along the side of the road.

I am a very good listener. I actually bumped into an old friend today . . . I was coming out of a grocery store and he was coming in . . . we instantly recognized each other even with masks on. We should not have been talking at that moment, but he looked really bad and even said things were going bad for him . . . so I stayed to chat with him for a moment.

If I were in your shoes, I will do the same thing. Of course, I need to practice social distancing. It is a sad thing that we are so cautious because of this pandemic.

@Shavkat Well, we had masks on and chatted while social distancing, but we're supposed to avoid talking if at all possible, right? But humans need that interaction - we can't ignore people, especially our friends and for sure if they seem depressed. I hope both of our friends will be ok.

i am a good listener and sometimes i butt in if the person shows some remorse or is angry. it is not good to be the punching bag of one. sometimes we have to be proactive as regards problems of our friends.

I agree. If this person is a whiner and doesn't listen to our advice, then we need to forget it.

@Shavkat although we are only there to give our pieces of advice, it is up to that person whether she listens or not. but one thing that i do not like is when while i give my advice, she suddenly stops me from talking and then gives another question. hmph! that way, i will keep quiet and slowly stand up my chair and leave.
