Covid-19 impact: Reverse Migration to the Rural(Village) areas?

For many years, people across states, provinces, nations and as a trend across continents, people were migrating from villages to urban areas(cities/towns)for better job opportunities and living conditions. Many did manage better living conditions and financial strength. Yet for many, the life in cities meant long hours of work, cramped living spaces and a life far away from promised. In fact, many in the villages are better off in some senses than the urban folks, especially those who live in the urban slums. The Covid-19 has caused major impact and even deaths in slums across different continents. This has made many people to move back to villages, where there are more open spaces and social distancing can be followed. In fact, some of my friends who have some base and good house in villages too are planning to move to the rural areas. So are we seeing this as a broader trend? Any comments?

It looks like a good thing if people are doing what they can to earn a living and keep their distance.

@just4him Yes, but Governmental policies too need to be modified. Of course, people also need to get suitable employment avenues.

That's way of living in the village in the rural area is a bit lax compared to the urban places.

@Nakitakona For some, Villages with their fresh air and open spaces look a better option. Yet those who have never or rarely lived in the villages, that is not much of an option.

I agree. Many are now moving out of large cities to more rural places. That's one reason why we left our building in Florida and why our son bought a house in the suburbs of New Jersey to keep his family safe.

It will be interesting to see if the trend becomes permanent.

Yes people seem to be returning to the provinces but of course this would depend if they are able to find source of income.

Yes people are moving towards the villages and reason for lower class is food vena it's easier for them to manage food in villages.

@Butterfingers And many are getting employment through MNREGA scheme too. Moreover they can try to grow at least something on the agricultural land.
