The Washington Redskins are now...The Washington Football Team

That's a very creative change don't you think?
The Washington management narrowed names down to four but they needed something now.
The options were, the Redtails, Wolves, Sentinels and one other one that I can not remember right now.
Instead of just picking one, even if it was out of a hat, they chose to go with a temporary name. They went with the very unoriginal Washington Football Team.
The color scheme will remain the same so that should make it easier for the people that make the jersey's and fan merchandise.
Washington fans, what do you think of the new name?

@CarolDM They supposedly did a poll and it was discussed like a few years ago. This year wasn't the first time they had talked about changing the name.

They should have. They had a poll done and the Native Americans honestly didn't care about it.

I think changing this name crap is just that, CRAP!! It is ridiculous @JordanLader . Gee I guess that means that the state of Indiana will have to change their name too; considering the name Indian is part of it. Or how about all the other cities that have names of Indian tribes.

I knew they were going to change it, but I had not heard this. That's actually quite funny. But I do think they should think of a name and go with it rather than pick a temporary name - that just confuses people. And really - Football Team

The news just broke a few minutes ago really. I thought that they were close to picking a name, officials said they had about a month so that they could change the jerseys but no luck I guess.
I don't mind changing names but the reason wasn't really right. The only people that cared about the name was Washington apparently.

@JordanLader It's funny because I caught it on the news not too long after commenting on your post here. It's just too much work to even have a temporary name . . . just choose and be done. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot more name changes with everything the way things are going.

@much2say The Braves baseball team was called out about it apparently but they refuse to change thier name. They are talking about taking out the tomahawk chop though that apparently fans do in the stand but that's it.

I saw this news earlier. I wonder what their helmets will look like? The same as before, with just the Redskins emblem removed, or will they put the words "Washington" on their helmets where the logo used to be?
I personally love the Red Tails name, it would be a great tribute to the Tuskegee Airman of WWII fame.

That's what I thought as well. Apparently they let the fans flood twitter and they're fan emails with name suggestions and they picked from some of those.
As far as I can tell, they're going to just change the logo out with the name Washington. Everything else is staying the same since nothing else was decided.

That's a dumb name to pick. They couldn't come up with anything better, even if temporarily? Could they have at least gone with Reds for the time being?

I think the Reds would fall into the Native American category and apparently we're seperating from that kind of theme.
