Getting It All Wrong But For Me It Was Just A Bit Of Fun.....

When my Mom was last with me on holidays here with us which was very rare indeed so I took a lot of time out to show her and take her everywhere we could. Putting it short this time not like the a bit long winded post about the coach driver from before. She asked me how she could find out the times of the coaches from a certain station in England so that they could be there on time and get home quicker. I understood all that and she had got the number of the travel agency where they had booked the tickets through. So I called them from here in Spain and I asked them the timetable of the coaches. The lady started speaking to me very slowly in English and asking if I understood her. I did not get at all offended if anything the contrary she said "I thought you were Spanish". I thought who are you kidding with this Wolverhampton accent of mine. I was howling with laughter when she started speaking to me very slowly like that as I realized she thought I did not understand her. What made me laugh even more when she asked me if I had ever been to England I told her I am from Wolverhampton born and bred and we both laughed then. In the end I got the right times of the coaches that were going to Wolverhampton Just another funny memory at least for me. Have a beautiful weekend ahead all you can guys. Not the first time they have taken me for being Spanish when I worked on a Switchboard as a Telephonist in a huge company the very same boss of the company wanted to know who the foreign bird was meaning a girl for him women were known as birds in a nice way though.

That is so funny. I speak my slow French in France and they would let me go for a while then speak really good English to me. lol

The Spanish that I used to speak was slow and awkward as well so take heart and however my French is a different kettle of fish I can imitate the accent quite well so at least we do try and they were just appreciating your efforts.

@JudyEv Over this side of the border they don´t like it much if you don´t try to speak Spanish and I have come across some not very nice Spanish who will look down their nose at you if you don´t try. I can imitate Sophie Marceau to a t if I so wish. Not many speak English here at all even though they might know a few words here and there.

@lovinangelsinstead21 We had been told that if you try to use French, they will quickly switch to English and that is what we found. I quite enjoyed trying to use my French and mostly I seemed to be understood.

That is so sweet of you to share that memories of yours. Wolverhampton sounds so romantic. Brought me some Jane Austen vibe.

Isn't that very funny that the lady thought you were Spanish. It is amusing with your accent from Wolverhampton.

I must admit it was really funny at least to me I know she was just trying to be polite. I do have a Spanish accent really and the Spanish does tend to take the lead in any converstaion I have and I don´t do it on purpose at all it just comes out that way. The Boss of mine in Wolverhampton thought I was foreign too which I found amusing as well. I am a Wulfrunian Wench and make no bones about it ower kid.

I still laugh at it now you could not speak much slower than what she did but she was very nice about it.
