Kidnapping Memories

I've mentioned how many times I've skipped death and remembered two others that I had forgotten about. When I was 4-years old, I was sitting on the steps in front of our house when a man came walking down the sidewalk. He asked me where my Mom was and I pointed to the house. He asked me if I wanted to go to the park and I nodded my head yes. He took me by the hand and we started walking. About that time I heard my Mom yell my name. She came after me and the guy took off running. Needless to say, I got one hell of a whippin'. When I was 14, I was driving to the restaurant where I worked as a dishwasher. The car wound up with not one flat tire but two. It was only about a mile to the restaurant so even though it was raining, I decided to walk the rest of the way. A guy pulls up and asks if I want a ride. I got in the car and the first thing I noticed was a billy club attached to the dashboard and I though this was an off-duty cop. We took off and he reached over and grabbed me by my chi-chi. I squeezed closer to the door and he grabbed by my hoochie-coo and the worst part of it was, we had just passed the restaurant. I grabbed the door handle, slammed my shoulder into the door and went flying out of the car flipping end over end down into the ditch. Before I even stopped flipping, I was on my feet and running faster than an Olympic runner back towards the restaurant. Once I got inside, all I could get out was, "Call the police!" I don't know if they ever found him. Needless to say, my Mom who was the head cook at the restaurant chewed me out and said, "I'll bet you don't ever hitch a ride again, will ya!!!" Just like she had warned me about strangers when I was 4. Have never done it ever since either.

Oh yeah, @amadeo . I'd rather walk through flood water or a blizzard than catch a ride.

Very scary experiences. I haven't had anything like that happen, thank goodness. My friends and I did hitch hike from a store back to a place we were camping when I was 19. The guy who picked us up had empty liquor bottles in his car. There were four of us and one of him. I wouldn't have done it alone. But that's the only time I got a ride from a stranger.

@simone10 I think so too and considering how many close calls I've had (17); they must be getting tired of it.

@DianneN I'm so glad more parents are telling they're kids, "Do not get in a car with anybody regardless of what they tell you."

'Chi chi' , 'hoochie-coo' - I can guess what they mean but have never heard them before. You've led an adventurous life, glad you lived to tell the tale.

Yeah, those 'names' were pretty common back in the day in Nebraska & Iowa @jaboUK . I could have mentioned the time too that when I was 16 and my friend was 14, we were at the beach and started talking to a couple of guys. They needed a ride so when we got in the car, one of them drove. We wound up in Colorado when the police finally got these guys for robbing liquor stores. I swear, I could do a book.

I think so too although back when I was 4 that would have been 1955 and the other incident was in 1966 and I guess when you think about it; back then it may not have been as prevalent as it is today @JudyEv .
