An Upgrade to My Cable and Internet

I have very good cable and internet service. That comes at a steep price. I personally would ditch the cable service and go straight Internet but that would not make his happy, he has trouble figuring out things these days with the Parkinson's so I need to leave things simple. But I wanted faster Internet and an upgrade for Al's Cable box. Anyway, lately, I have been having trouble with the speed of the Internet and it cutting out. So I called and they got me an appointment the same day. I was shocked. My service person Richard was there early and he noticed right away that I had old wires. Well yes, I do, they are 25 years old from when we built the house. He replaced the ones he could see and then had to drill a hole through our house wall to run a new fresh line in from outside. He also replaced our modem which was old. While he was here he also replaced Al's cable box which upgraded his service to what we have in the family room and bedroom. He is coming back Monday to replace the wire from the pole to our house. So far, so good it is working great. He was here a full two hours and he also fixed Al's Roku TV so that he goes right to the cable and doesn't have to tell it where he wants to go and now he has voice activation so if he wants to watch something on Netflix or Amazon he just speaks into the remote. That was a good day's work. I will pay a little more because Al's box is $3 more but it is worth it and I just have to make sure that I remember Next July to ask them if they have any deals because this one is a deal and it will go up about $30 when the year ends.

So glad you were able to get everything so important done and so soon. Every year we return from Florida, we have a price increase. Hubs doesn't like that and speaks to our cable company in that special way he has and gets the price down with more accoutrements. We put our cable on hold, but never have a problem in Florida. Our landline, TV, and internet are on it. We stream, too, and have Roku as a backup to our apps. Never a dull minute, but happy you and Al are happy.

lol Right now we have Florida on hold but have the works at the cottage and in CT, no phone however we don't want that anymore all it was was robo calls. Xfinity surprised me, I have always had pretty good service from them but they outdid themselves this time and Richard was a real gem. He got Al a remote with bigger numbers too which he didn't have to do.

@BelleStarr Yes, Florida is on hold for 6 months with us. We have to call them to extend the wait time, since we have no intention os returning this year. It is what it is. We love Xfinity in FL. We have had Cablevision here for years and are content with them. We can’t get Xfinity here. Such a shame. I’m happy Richard took care of everything for you, especially for Al. That’s truly wonderful.

@DianneN we aren’t going to Florida this year either. Is the hurricane going to go close to your home? I know you have hurricane shutters but it is always worrisome

Sometime streaming TV can be a real beach @BelleStarr I recently added CBS All Access via Amazon but kept having so much trouble getting it to show properly so I called Amazon and they gave me a full refund. Nice of them I thought.

It sounds like he was determined to fix all of your connectivity issues, and that is a good worker to spend the time to do that. I hope that you can call the company and give a good review.

It is definitely worth the upgrade, especially for Al. We are having the cable company come out today. We have been having trouble with our internet going in and out. They said there is a tear in the cable. I hope they can fix it because my brother works at home 3 days out of the week and has to have the internet.

Glad to hear the cable guy did all that for you, some of them are really helpful. When I transfered my cable last november the guy did replace every one of my cables, modems, remotes and boxes because they were old too.

My goodness you had so much done! I'm glad your service will be better. The price of cable and satellite TV is horrible; and I'm surprised that someone hasn't come along with a competitive price. Have a great weekend.

I know but in many areas, we have only one cable option, if we want something else we need to get satellite TV which I don't want.

@BelleStarr If I had the money and the knowledge, I would start my own cable company and have reasonable prices. I'll bet then the cable and satellite companies would cut their prices!

Senior citizens get a deal here--I pay $10 for Internet--I cut cable last year and I pay $8.99 for netflix, $6.99 for amazon and Pride (all on senior's discount) and that's it!!! I did buy an indoor antenna so basically I pay $16 for all the TV anyone can watch 24/7!!
