Slow Cooker Cheeseburgers?

I understand everything about this recipe except for the "grates" talked about.
Are they just to line in-between burgers?
Are they cradles to help lift?
I am clueless.
If you can figure out, would you explain the aluminum foil to me?

Grates means rolls of aluminium foil to keep the burger cooking above the juices that will come out.
Just roll the foil into sausages put them in the bottom of the pot and put the burger on top.
They should be fat enough to keep the burger above the juice.

@Spontaneo I'd just avoid this thing as it isn't that great in terms of execution.
Too much work for an end result that I don't think will be that good.
There are way better burger making recipes out there.

Grates might be in the bottom so any grease can seep down, away from the burgers. This was just my thought.

@Spontaneo Something in the bottom of the slow cooker, as Mike suggested rolled up aluminum foil.

@kobesbuddy Why does the aluminum foil have to be rolled up? Why not simply line the Crock-Pot like a slow cooker liner?
