Never Be the Same Again

I finally started looking through my home movies. The videos all have great color and have held up very well. The first one took me back to my hometown New York City in 1999. We were taking a cruise from the South Street Seaport. It was amazing to hear Martin commenting on things we were seeing along the way and asking me questions. It was interesting to hear the Latvian language. It made me sad to realize this was so close to the time of the terror acts. The World Trade Centers made the skyline admirable. We saw people enjoying themselves on The Beast boat ride, people on jet skies in the river and a crowded Staten Island Ferry. Some lovely close-up shots of The Statue of Liberty. I also got a listen to Martin’s humor. He used to just say whatever came off the top of this head. There was a lady who almost got into a video shot and he just casually says to me, “Just pull that lady’s head off.” Even watching this so many years after makes me laugh when he says it on the tape. It was a hot and lovely summer day and everyone looked so happy and carefree all around. No one had any idea how this would all end and I can be sure that this was one of the last times people were so happy to be out and about. Sure there was still the year 2000 but then afterward things took a turn for the worst and I can imagine that today things are even more different. It was a great video for the memories.

It can be a really strange feeling to look back on such times - especially if there is speaking as well.
