Whoa! I hadn't realized how bad MyLot's issues are right now. I took me four tries to get to the site. Here's a "negatve" post to suit my mood: Have you ever visited somewhere you would NEVER live?

I love Iowa. I love Montana. I think I could retire in either State and give piano, guitar, bass and mandolin lessons to kids, drink too much at night, and enjoy life in general. But there are certain places I've passed through on my travels where i would NEVER live. Among those places is Western Nevada. It is SO desolate out there. I don't know how I would survive. Are there certain places you've visited where you could NEVER live? I will (try to) attach a photo of a place in Nevada where I stretched, smoked half a cig, and probably took a leak. I could NEVER live there.

Friday will be two weeks of this nonsense. I’m so fed up. I’d never live away from the ocean. I’d feel claustrophobic. Living in a desert or western Nevada isn’t my cup of tea either.

I miss living a block from the ocean as I did in Santa Barbara. But I don't mind living in California Suburbia. I have access to nice hikes here. Western Nevada would be hell for me.

I think I am challenged by that desolate place you mentioned. It seems that there is no more place like that because I see the earth as too crowded already.

I would have to say New Orleans off the top of my head. Way too much crime there and I hate the traffic. The error messages are back and as bad as or worse than before. I get it mainly when opening new posts. Errr!

@TheHorse They have to irrigate to grow crops in Southern Alberta. So, there are a variety of crops but there is a lot of ranching /pasture that looks like your picture. Windy, and dusty living in a small town.

Yeah, NYC. As Buck Owens sang, I wouldn’t live in New York City if they gave me the whole dang town. Ditto Chicago. Wouldn’t mind visiting again, though.

@TheHorse — too dang big, and too dang cold in the winter (that’s when I was there....February!) Oh, and no parking spots and you have to pay $6000 a month for an apartment the size of my bathroom.

Too dang big? But there are some nice neighborhoods and suburbs. I love my Auntie's place on Long Island. and I liked Hyde Park in Chicago (except for the muggers from the nearby 'hood).

I was going to say that I would never live in a place that is miserably hot, but then I realize that I already live in such a hellhole here in Florida! lol I don't think I could live in any of the flyover states (wheat belt). I would go crazy looking out and seeing nothing but rows and rows of wheat or corn.

@TheHorse I got lost in a cornfield once when I was in 3rd grade. Of course, it wasn't a big cornfield, and I could have just walked in any direction and found my way out, but hey, I was just a little kid. It freaked me out.

I crossed through the panhandle of Texas on a road trip from Chicago to San Diego many many years ago. I couldn't live in such a flat desolate area. There's nothing to see except grain silos on the horizon. Even the road was barren. I would like to live in a place where I couldn't see my neighbors except on the horizon, but I still want neighbors and I would like to see traffic. I don't want to feel alone in the world.

I agree. Where you live looks nice to me. But you know I love and sometimes miss the Midwest. I MIGHT be able to live at my Montana cabin year around if I had insulation in the ceiling and phone and internet. My neighbors are a drive away but they're wonderful people.

@TheHorse Thank you. I need more snow than I get. I know it's too much for many people who live here and don't want to hear that word, especially in summer. Though by this time they are using the word cool and fall/autumn more as the heat of summer is so draining. I'm sure if you got the cabin insulated and a phone/Internet line installed, you would love living there. A neighbor a drive away is doable for me too.

Hey @TheHorse nice post and picture. Regarding your question I think I would never live in the suburbs, or in places like the one you mentioned above. Why? Cause I happen to like the city and crowded places, it is like it makes me feel alive. However I would indeed spend vacation on a place like your picture shows!

@TheHorse you could wind up in a rambling or small old house. Sure you could have running water and electricity but probably your neighbors would be pretty far away. You'd have to drive into the nearest small town to shop and hope they had a supermarket but they might not. And there you would be sort of like in the little house on the prairie. Nope, definitely not for me. I even hate it now that I cannot walk to the nearest supermarket but would have to take a bus. I don't like to do that alone.
