This isn’t exactly the hard rocking day in these dual countdowns of songs from a “long time ago” (according to some kids), is it? Nevertheless, this song, from 1970, is one that still gets airplay and is probably known by those who weren’t even around back then. And here it is.
Fire and Rain - James Taylor
James Taylor wrote this from the depths of the pits. That’s where some of the best music comes from, if you think about it. Taylor was suffering from depression, and he wrote this while in rehab (at the age of 21, so let that be a lesson that you’re never too young to (a) suffer from depression or (b) get help).
“Suzanne,” from the first verse, was a childhood friend of Taylor’s who committed suicide, making Taylor’s already bad existence at the time worse.
Thankfully, he did get help, and he gave us a memorable song as a testimony to reaching out for help....and getting it, with a positive outcome.

@FourWalls Even thought I've heard this song 8,000 times, it's one of those I won't turn off when I hear it.
