How many each?

Good Morning! I was perusing etsy while I tried to figure out the third item I wanted to get for a friend's birthday. I typed "jeep" into the search bar because she loves jeeps and has two of her own. I had already purchased a jeep decal for her, but I wanted to see what else I could get her. I thought maybe another decal / sticker because she loves those. Then I found a mason jar that had been painted and stenciled with the words "jeep fund" on it and the jeep grill in the middle. I looked at that and instantly said "Yep, that's what I have to get her." When you shop for birthdays or anniversaries, how many gifts do you give each person? Or do you base it off of spending?

It depends on how much money I have to spend.

That is pretty much the same for me. Every year I say that I am going to start buying stuff earlier, but that doesn't always happen.

@simone10 I start searching for gift ideas as early as well.. now, but I don't usually buy so early. I need to start doing that though.Sometimes I get gifts from people that I am not able to give gifts too and I feel bad.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I say the same thing. It seems like something always comes up that I have to use my money for.

I haven't had to buy any gifts for 10 years. I used to place a $ limit and then spend that much, whether it was one gift or several.

Oh wow, well that's convenient, isn't it? The family and I don't do much gift exchanging, but my friends and I do.

@LindaOHio You could get a giftcard for your mail carrier. Something small but something they would appreciate. That is, if you have the same mail carrier all the time. Ours changes.

I can't afford to go extravagant. Christmas gifts with me are usually very paltry.

When I'm shopping for a gift it depends on the person. Sometimes I like to give a bunch of small gifts while other times it's just one big (ish) gift. I love Etsy and you can always find something there that's unique. I'm sure your friend will love her painted mason jar. I have one of those that says coffee and keep it next to my coffee pot filled with my ground coffee. It's cute and a conversation piece.

For me it depends a lot on my finances at the time too. I"m so awful at picking out gifts, but I am really proud of myself this time. I love etsy as well! So many unique things to be found there. I like that jar, I might see if I can find one that says "yarn funds" to keep my change in.

@Marilynda1225 I looked on etsy but it was just a small mason jar with it printed on the lid. I could probably find a company that would personalize something though...

I am giving my best friend two Christmas gifts this year. I had decided to spurge on my best friend and my fiancé on alternate years. Since this year is so crazy, I have decided to just send Chris a card this year and spurge on my best friend. For her birthday, I just give her a card. Although I may get her some butterfly earrings I saw on Amazon for her birthday next year. Chris' birthday is on Christmas Day so I sometimes give him two gifts.

I always feel bad for people who have a birthday on Christmas Day. I think alternating who you splurge on is a good idea. This year I am going to try to splurge a little more on everybody, so I guess I'd better start working on saving up money now.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I guess it depends how generous I feel when I buy gifts for people for their birthdays.

It doesn't depend on your relationship with the person?

@ScribbledAdNauseum What does it depend upon?

@Hannihar I can't tell you what it depends upon because I'm not you.

For me it's all about whether I can afford it. I don't mind giving more than one gift, but I need to be able to afford it. I've spent about $35 on this friend, a little more than I spent on the friend whose birthday just passed.

Believe it or not, I don't buy gifts, I usually give cash.

A lot of people are giving cash or gift vouchers now. I like to still get traditional gifts, though I love receiving gift cards instead.
