Rain, rain, rain. The weather radio says we’ve had over two inches of rain since yesterday evening, so there are lots of flash flood and areal flood advisories around. I’m high and dry, ready to give you another song that’s celebrating its 40th birthday this year. Sing along.
(Just Like) Starting Over - John Lennon
And, sadly, that means that this year is also the 40th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder.
Generally speaking, I didn’t care much for Lennon as a solo artist. He really seemed to be the angry Beatle. There’s a parody of him on a National Lampoon album, with Tony Hendra more or less reading quotes out of a 1970 Rolling Stone interview with Lennon (beginning with Lennon saying that “I resent performing for you f***ers”).
Not that there aren’t a few Lennon songs that don’t strike my fancy. Thank Elton John for appearing on “Whatever Gets You Thru the Nite” for one of them.
And, while this isn’t a favorite, I did enjoy the 50s throwback vibe it had, sticking out like a sore thumb in the waning days of the disco era.
Then came December 8, and the happy-go-lucky optimism of this song was silenced by a madman.

I love John's music during and after the Beatles. Great choice.
