Do you try new foods? What about jicama?

Jicama might be used as a potato substitute in some cultures. I don't know how it's prepared though. I have seen it in keto recipes before to make low carb French fries so I bought it to try that out. I'm finding it's difficult to cut if you have hand joint issues. Today I added some fixed jicama to have with my eggs. What about you have you ever tried jicama or is it a staple in your part of the world? Do you try out new foods?

It is not staple in my part of the world, I tried it and I prefer regular potatoes. I always try food that I do now know.

@MarshaMusselman It's hard to cut and the taste not worth the effort.

I may never get it again. We shall see. I know it's hard to get a knife through the flesh which is a con for me with my hand joints being bad.

@rhuenz it's there shape of cucumbers but in the squash family. Have you had a chayote? It would be similar to that but not as dense as the chayote is and can be cooked in a similar fashion.

I didn't like the smell while cutting it up but it was a tad sweet after cooking it with my zucchini. I'll know more after trying it as a fry.

@MarshaMusselman The smell would put me off trying it.

@just4him the smell was mostly different. It wasn't awful. I've eaten noodles that are no carb and some are Asian and those smell until rinsed thoroughly.

@amitkokiladitya there are many substitutions to potatoes. I've had some that are very good but would be hard to make.

Looks much like potatoes. Is it priced lesser than potatoes?

I didn't compare the price and would have to check. It seems denser than potatoes but maybe just because it's bigger in raw form.
