Are FB groups worth it?

There is a group on FB where people share their poetry. It has over 68,000 members. People can share poetry directly in a post or share a link to it published elsewhere. With that many members one would expect at least a few likes and comments, though hopefully more. In the past few weeks I decided to share two things I had written. I think one was a poem and another was a lyric. They are published on my Google blog so I shared the links to them rather than pasting them directly into the posts. I got zero comments and zero likes. I don't know if it's because I shared a link rather than pasting the poem and lyric directly into a post but not getting any likes or comments makes me feel like there is no point in sharing stuff there. I scrolled through the group and I saw many other posts (with content actually pasted rather than links) that had no likes or comments either. I guess many people just share their stuff and move on. And I find a similar thing happening in a group I am in for sharing books. Seems people share the links to their books and move on, not really browsing what others have shared. I've done that for some of my books in the past and got no likes or comments either.

I've pretty much given up on Facebook. It's horrible. I belong to a handful of groups, but I rarely go on the group pages anymore and never like or comment on anything. I'd rather spend my time productively on myLot.

@lovebuglena Is he supportive of that stuff, or opposed to it (the protests, BLM, riots, etc.)? I try to stay as far away from political comments as I can. Nobody is ever going to win a political argument on social media, no matter which side of the political spectrum they are on.

I have FB pages on there and an FB writing group. Also have a cooking group but have not posted there in a long time and neither has anyone else. I love FB minus all that political crap or violence posts. It lets me keep in touch with people not near me.

@moffittjc Hubby is now very political and shares a lot of political stuff on his wall and has debates in the comments with people whether it's what he shared or someone his friends posted. And he watches a lot of political videos on FB and even protest ones, or BLM, etc. I can't stand that stuff, especially where people are being loud and disrespectful or spewing hate.

I belong to a couple of FB groups, but I'm rarely on FB anymore. I find it all a waste of myLot time.

@DianneN I'd sure love those crisp green Benjamins. Or even Lincolns or Washingtons.

Hahaha. Would be nice if FB paid for interacting.

There are very few groups on FB where members like and comment. In most of the groups, they just post their stuff and move on.

@lovebuglena Everyone believes their posts will receive views ,Ikes, comments but they don't think of doing the same to the posts of other members. This is the human nature I have observed on FB and many other social media platforms. This happens when one's sole objective is to promote one's link.

If that is the case what is the point of it? How does that benefit anyone or the group ownder?

@sunil4ya I am thinking the same thing but that's not right. If all people do is post a link to their stuff or simply post the stuff directly in the post and then leave than there is no point in the group. It does nothing.

I belong to several groups on FB, but I go there to lurk and read. I just know I would get lost in the posts - so I don't even bother. I think if you network and go there often to be visible, it would help . . . but how many of us have the time to do that these days. I guess I go there to get ideas more than share my own.

The group should be not just people posting their stuff and moving on but also people reading stuff by others and maybe leaving a comment or at least a like. No one expects anyone to sit there for hours and check out stuff by others but at least some.

@lovebuglena I know, it really should be a community sharing spot, give and take, but it seems like a lot of people don't do the interacting part - at least anymore. I feel like social media was more like that in the beginning days, but it's less of it now?

@much2say Sometimes there is interaction but more so when they ask for some help or something and not when they share their stuff.

I guess it all depends on the social media. In my opinion you could share it on Twitter and it could work out differently. Facebook is getting a little old fashioned these days!

I don't really use Twitter though have an account there. What I post on my FB profile and FB pages gets automatically posted on Twitter. I don't even remember how I set that up. I have not logged onto Twitter in a very long time. I used to have a Twitter app on my phone but had to delete it to make room for an iOS update.

I have joined several groups and they are of great help especially in getting organic views for my blog for I share it to them.

I'm sorry that you're not getting any comments on your posts. Maybe you should share your poetry here.

I publish it on my blog so I share links to that. But I can't do that here.
