A Complain or a feedback.

I talked to the vice principal of my daughter's school yesterday afternoon. Why? Well, my daughter started their class last week but they already were given loads and loads of tasks in different subjects. Subject teachers already introduced them sites for their subjects and given them tasks there. Their schedule for live classes are not consistent and the teachers cannot be contacted by the students. I think this is rather unrealistic. I know this is the new normal now but it does not mean that the kids 13 years old will already know all this technology when it is just given at them. The teachers of junior high school always emphasize they want the students to be independent. I understand this but I think they have to guide the students first and not to expect them to know everything at hand. When I talk to the teachers or the principal, I do not say I am complaining. But I rather say I am giving feedback. I want the teachers to know that parents are here to work with them for the betterment of the kids. I talked to the vice principal because she also has a son at the same level of my daughter.

This is a new process and I’m sure your feedback will help. It’s a lot of stress for the children and parents too

The students cannot contact the teachers? Here, the kids can email/message their teachers . . . and the parents can as well. Definitely the kids have to be guided through the technology - not all of them know how to. I do think teachers need such feedback - otherwise how are they to know what's going on on our side. So good for you for speaking up!

@rakski Oh how frustrating. I am noticing now that my son's teacher did not respond to my last 2 emails . And she is the one who told me she is usually good about returning messages pretty quickly. I realize the teachers may be overwhelmed, but they really should get back to all their correspondence within a reasonable time . . . mine is overdue 8 days . . . and the other now 4 days .

@much2say yes, I understand they are overwhelmed but still need to do things timely or maybe they should adjust the activities that they can handle

My daughter has algebra lessons and I’m kinda rusty in that department. And the teacher’s explanation in a video isn’t really enough so I have to step up and help but how? And they have deadlines to meet to pass their assessments. Oh noooooo

I agree with what you did. The teachers should guide their pupils and not expect much from these kids.

My wife teaches on private school and they were literally shocked when the school decided to go online classes and they all have to go crash course on how to teach online. They started early July and it has been a very confusing for everyone teachers, students and the parents.

True. That is why I believed that the teachers take baby steps on this. I understand that this is all very new to all and there is no need to boast the new technologies they have learn especially to students who also do not know this stuff right now. If the teachers were shocked, how much more the students.

It is all so frustrating these new things we and our kids have to do to learn right now. My son was on the computer most the day today doing work.

You make a good point, and they can not possibly expectt the kids to know things they haven't been taught! Good for you for giving feedback

You have a very good point. Students should not be left unaware of the tools they are trying to use or access.
