I heard about the news yesterday and got surprised as I am not following the game. later I found that He hit a ball to one of the line referees. As it seemed unintentional But after a discussion they disqualify him.
A sad end for him for this year us open. This can happen with anyone though.

I saw the video. Completely unintentional. He was not even looking at the linesperson. Unfortunately, if you hit the linesperson with a ball your disqualified. His first loss this season and a heartbreaking way to do it!

But the rules are there to protect the linesperson from any such mishappening.
