Is it true that when a woman starts liking gardening and planting flowers, she’s getting older? I don’t know if this is just a joke or something. Anyway, my mom gave me this plant in the picture above. She has a lot of indoor plants and she’s worried of my plantless house. I accepted the plant but was a little bit worried if I can take care of it. I had to repot it and that was what really scared me. What if it died in my black thumbed-hands? Fortunately, it didn’t. It grew some new shoots (or do you call them shoots? Not sure) and that was when I took a photo of it and sent it to my mom. She was really glad and told me I did a good job. Even offered more plants to take home. Uhmm.. no, thank you. One is enough. For now. Maybe I’m not in ‘that’ stage yet? Lollll

I think that plant is quite hardy and it will do well even if you are not an expert.

Someone told me that plant is called 'espada' because of its shape. It is good for indoors because it emits oxygen for us human beings. That is why the air circulation in the home could be healthier with this kind of plant. I have loved gardens since I was young, so there is no truth to the claim that gardening is only for the aging and the old. Accept more plants from your mother, the plants at the nurseries and the supermarkets are super expensive. Besides, plants are natural decors.

The leaves do look like espada. And you’re right. Seems like plants cost an arm and leg nowadays. Supply and demand at its best

I've always enjoyed growing plants. The one you have there is pretty easy to take care of. I have them growing in my yard.

Hard to kill those plants, this is a "Sanseveria", also called "snake plant". Mom had several in her apartment, but it's not a plant that I like.

@sol_cee Do you mean why I do not like. Because I do not find those long leaves attractive and they are even dangerous for kids. I remember my niece almost pierced one eye falling near one of that plant.

When I was in my 30's I personally attend to our little garden now I am in my late 50's and lazy to do that lol it's my sister in law who does all the planting. I just contribute to the expenses.

I have not heard about that before. I started gardening after I became a stay-at-home mom as I'd like to grow my own vegetables for the kids and gardening is a good skill for them to pick up as well. I also like to grow some flowers, so there are butterflies coming to my garden, and the kids get to see the caterpillars. That statement could be right, as I am surely getting old... But that could be because my focus has shifted and I spend more time at home too...

wish yer sweet momma could send some to me, lol. not really, i've been houseplant challenged the past few years... 'tis a beaut, looks to be a snake plant 'n those new leaves 're gorgeous. i've 'lways grown thingies - 'ndoors'n out. 'njoy playin' with the dirt, learnin' their likes'n dislikes. 'tis good fer the air quality'n yer home, too, those houseplants. "The Snake plant purifies air by absorbing toxins through the leaves and producing pure oxygen. In fact, the Sansevieria is an ideal bedroom plant. Whereas most other plants release carbon dioxide at night (in the absence of photosynthesis), the Sansevieria continues to produce oxygen." see? yer momma love ya!

That's one of the easiest plants to care for or not. I've had my own plants since I was in my teens.

I don´t think that it is true. I was already interested in planting flowers when I was still a teenager. That plant in the photo is easy to care for.
