Have your social media habits changed due to this political year?

Hi friends! Have you social media habits changed any due to this rather politically charged year? I know mine have. I come online as an escape. And to promote beauty and positivity. Now, I know that not everything IS beauty and positivity. I don't blame those that take a stance as long as there no hate or bashing of the other side. But I do not have the energy to handle participating at the time being. Seems like some people come online to control others, or to yell at others. For the most part, I stay out of it. At times it annoys me. Aren't I allowed an opinion? On the other hand the internet doesn't need many more opinions , it's already stocked up. But I had a friend, who get on even my neutral posts and try to boss me around as to having an opinion or not. :/ Uncool. I know the individual is probably personally and professionally stressed out. So to save him any more strife I blocked him from seeing my posts. We're still friends but by default he can't see what I put up. He can go police someone else. I'd hate to see what he acts like when someone actually disagrees with him. Ha. Photo: Pixabay Sci Fi keyword search , User KellePics

I try to stay out of the politically charged posts. I hate politics. Too much bashing. I come here not as a means of escape, but because I genuinely love the people here and want to know how their day is going and hope they are all doing well. I miss those I haven't seen in a while. I hope @JohnRoberts comes back and lets us know he's okay. As for those who want to bully their way onto posts, it depends on the comment. I might or might not answer it. Generally, I'll give a like and move on. One person deleted a comment I made to another person on their post. That surprised me. I no longer associate with the person. I haven't blocked the person, but I no longer follow the person.

@FayeHazel It would be good if she did. It's sad when people need others to agree with everything they say. My father was one of those people. He had his opinions and they were the only ones that counted. If he didn't like the way you thought, he tried to give you a heads up about your opinions and ideas. If I stood my ground, and I always did, he started bashing me about what I liked, always political.

Ah. Same. It would be nice if both parties could work together esp. during a national crisis (pandemic and the social justice issues) instead of causing yet more division..... but..... :/ I would even settle for - tell us why your party or belief system is so great (instead of bash the other guy). OH dear. Guess you're right John hasn't been around for awhile. I hope all is alright. That's sort of sad and small minded about the person who deleted your reply . :/ I don't blame you for distancing yourself. On a different writing site (the now defunct Bubblews) - a person had asked a question. "What do you think of XYZ". So I told my opinion, which, granted wasn't the popularly held opinion. I was , as far as I know, polite as I could be while still answering the question. Well, she tried to win me over to her way of thinking, and when that didn't work she started deleting my replies/her replies, to make me look bad. I was determined though, and I kept on replying (she kept on deleting)... finally I told her (via reply) to not ask questions online if she didn't want to hear ALL opinions and wasn't open to the idea of someone disagreeing with her.... Well, she got tired of it all and deleted the whole discussion. And we parted ways. I actually feel good about that. I wasn't mean. And maybe she learned something for future use....

@just4him I agree, I think it says something about that person... there is a world full of people ... how boring if everyone thought the same. Ah. Sorry your dad did that, too. Mine was that way too. I commend you for standing up. I caved to mine, but mine got downright vicious, name calling, screaming .... so to save him and everyone I would just agree. (Mine was very mentally ill). I hope you know now that your ideas are valid and you didn't deserve it

I avoid politics and religion on social media and on here. No one can change my political beliefs nor my religion.

@FayeHazel I agree. It's a very easy way to lose a friend.

@DianneN It seemed to be hot button topics in the past and all, but still like people could somewhat tolerate other views, but these past years it seems like people cannot stand other people's viewpoints.

I think it's a smart move. Even if one is trying to have a civil discussion - it seems like a lot of people cannot do that and that is getting worse in the past 4 years.

Oh geez . . . those kinds of friends just don't stop - yes, better to block them! I stay away from the political stuff there, but I will read things just to see what their views are - they just don't know that I do. Human behavior is sometimes not cool - even amongst friends.

Ha ha, so true, isn't it? I always knew he was a bit high strung, prone to stress, and going through some difficulties in life, so I think that's aggravating his behavior, but still lol. Even as mild as my wall is I found a way to aggravate him so he can just go elsewhere, lol.I know. I'm sort of saddened to see some of the behaviors in some of the people I know

@FayeHazel Friends can act so differently on social media from their "real" selves. I've seen friendships torn apart during this pandemic - but well, there is a huge political divide and people don't mind sharing their 2 cents. I just don't want to go there . . . people can be vicious! I hope your friend will calm down .

@much2say So true. It is easy to say things behind a keyboard. It's a pity for friendships lost.

Some people are very bossy, even when it comes to opinions. I'd be blocking your friend too. As you say - Ha! lol

@FayeHazel Maybe he thinks he has another one - the aggravation of not being able to interact with you.
