Given that I believe in God, I’m giving praise to God today. Thus far, the death toll from Hurricane Sally, which didn’t hit near where “they” thought it was going to, is one, with one missing. The damage is unbelievable (I say that every time I see the aftermath of a hurricane), but things can be replaced. Humans cannot. Lots of songs have the name “Sally” in the title, so here’s another one....and WHO didn’t see this one coming???? #8: Sally Simpson - The Who One of the songs that had me thinking about this as a series before the hurricane. Sally is a minor character in the rock opera Tommy, a girl who wants to go see one of Tommy’s in-person appearances. Forbidden by her minister father, she sneaks out and goes anyway. In an attempt to try to get Tommy’s attention, she jumps on the stage and gets thrown off by security, suffering a gash on her face. This is eerie, if you consider the correlation between this and the devotion to rock stars (“the new messiah”) that was prevalent then (heck, before then, and even now)...and if you remember what happened at a Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979. But Pete couldn’t have known the tragedy in Cincinnati was going to happen when he wrote this.
