Just thought that I would ask because... we are getting ready to make cider!!
It's a lot more work that we expected it to be. Yes, we did it last year as well!! All our apples are completely organic which means we are foraging for them. Did I mention the fact that I hate worms!! I have found just one so far thank goodness. I expected to find a lot more. I think that we have about 5 gallons in the basement doing whatever apple juice does to turn into cider!
And no, our property has no apple trees and no room to plant more. I wish we did!!
And lastly... how do you feel about worms??

We are close to the right temps! We had to turn on the furnace a few days ago.

@CarolDM I have my fingers crossed that we don't see a single snowflake until Christmas Eve!

Yep, when I try to dig I have to soak the area in question and little by little I can dig out maybe a foot then I soak some more @Hate2Iron When I have extra money I buy those big bags of cedar chips used in kennels, as it rots it adds a little organic matter to the clay.

I know all about clay soil. We had it at one of our houses and trying to dig into it was like digging into cement. Never forgot that house. Probably the biggest hindrance! Other than that... I loved it there! I have no idea how you treat that kind of soil. Oh wait... I remember one other kind of soil that was like glue. That was in Manitoba and you literally had to peel it off the bottom of your shoes. But plants seemed to love it!

'tis some work to make/preserve most anythin'. well worth't though. worms've rights, too :) all critters 've gotta eat.
from readin' through responses from others/yer replies, i see that y'all's 'xperiments're similar to my dad's. 'f course, he'd start off with a variety 'f fruits to make one. then start mixin' 'em to see what he could come'p with. some light'n fruity, others stronger'n moonshine, lol.

It's the cutting open the apples that you will find the worms. Luckily, it doesn't happen to often and they get tossed. This years cider was a little strong to say the least lol. Hopefully third year will be a charm.

I guess that they have as much right to feast on the apples as we do but I wish that they had moved on before I cut open the apple. ;)

I don't think I have ever eaten apple cider. Sounds good though!
