Here We Go Again: Hurricane Delta

It seems like this Hurricane season doesn't want to go on vacation and wait until next year. We now have Hurricane Delta off the coast of Louisiana and set for landfall later today/tonight. Delta is currently a Category 2 storm and sadly heading directly for Lake Charles, Louisiana where Hurricane Laura hit only 6 weeks ago and really took down the surrounding area. We have gotten a lot of rain here in Mississippi. We are getting the outer bands of rain and will for the rest of the day. Keep those on the coast of Louisiana in your prayers. Many still do not have their homes repaired from Hurricane Laura. © 2020 Karen Gros, All rights reserved; Photo NOAA- public domain

There will be damaging winds for area right after it hits landfall and storm surge all along the coast. Lots of flooding will also occur as if wind damage is not enough.

It's about to come ashore now. Had some flash flooding in Baton Rouge last night. Lots of rain coming down and high winds.

Yes, they have. I think a good many got electricity back on already in Lake Charles area. I've seen a few friends post. We got ours back this morning.

@Tampa_girl7 We had some high winds that howled overnight. Didn't get much sleep at all, but we still left around 7 this morning. Our lights went out around 8 Friday night and were still out Saturday morning. Called in the outage and found out the substation was damaged and Entergy had to repair that before Magnolia Electric could get started. So a good thing we were planning on leaving! Only damage was lots of limbs down and I lost an old crepe myrtle tree along back fence row. My hubby said I didn't know we even had a crepe myrtle tree. I said yep, It bloomed a few times. It didn't have room to grow out and grew straight up. Very tall for a crepe myrtle. I hope it will continue to grow. It snapped about four feet off the ground.

We are getting a lot more rain here with this one than the last one. It rained lightly here most of the day yesterday with a few spurts of medium to heavy. Then it turned into medium to heavy overnight. It rained here all night too and let up mid-morning.

@LindaOHio My hubby has been planning on wiring us up since we bought that house in 2008. He has the wire, just hasn't made the time to do it. It's a good idea!

@kareng We are thinking about getting a standby generator because of the rough winters up here. Ice storms can put out the power for days.

It is moving quickly and hoping that remains so. Will be lots of flooding and rain, especially for the area hit being more susceptible with a high sea surge along the coast. I feel so bad for those in Lake Charles who have been rebuilding since Laura six weeks ago. All of that work will be undone.

@arunima25 Yes, there are thousands with tarps over roofs, they will all blow away and more damage to inside of homes. Very sad indeed.

@kareng That's unfortunate!! Keeping them in prayers. It's really devastating for those who are still trying to recover from the last disaster.
