I Saw Stars!

I have had headaches over the years. Some dull. Some severe. Well, today I developed one and saw stars! I tried to keep reading my book, but the words jumped all over the page. Hubby told me it sounded like a migraine and gave me two Tylenol pills, made me crawl into bed, covered me with a quilt, and turned on the fireplace. I’m up now and feeling much better, thank you. Does it sound like a migraine to you?

An aura. Visual disturbances. Yup. Migraine. I know that it is not fun. I'm sorry.

@DianneN One doc looked at my eyes and could tell from that that my issue was migraines. Those headaches exhaust a person. Mine can come and go for a week. I hope yours go easy on you. They also mess with your balance sometimes.

The stars sound like an aura but I know 2 Tylenol would not have stopped mine. But I am glad it worked

Yikes! I'm so thankful the Tylenol worked. I took more before I went to sleep and feel fine today. I plan on relaxing all day and hope it never returns.

Yes, I sneeze in the sunlight when I first go outside unless I wear sunglasses. What do you think? The pain was located smack dab in the middle of my forehead.

@DocAndersen I feel awful for your daughter. I'd get them every minute if that was the case for me. I guess I'm not sensitive to light then. Is she on medication? That must be very difficult for your daughter.

@DianneN (my daughter gets them) light sensitivity means you literally cannot be in any light. just a bulb in a lamp makes her head throb. doesn't mean it isn't a migraine, just different than the migraines i know.

Oh my gosh, this migraine must've been a doozy. My sister said she occasionally sees blue lights(?) - is that how it is for you too? I say I get migraine-like headaches - but I've never seen stars or lights - but I do prefer to be in the dark when I get these type of headaches (literally with the pillow over my eyes too). It happens to me if too much MSG is in my food - or an extreme temperature change.

@DianneN My sister had it worse as a kid. She would get real nauseous too. I think it mostly went away when she finally got glasses - it somehow had to do with her sight. She still gets them every now and then, but she takes some kind of migraine medication when she feels it coming - and it doesn't get full blown if she takes the meds in time. Oh wow - how do detached retinas happen - that can happen from a traumatic reaction? Glad you are feeling much better now. Sorry to hear about the person you knew. That happened to me a few times when I tried to find a few friends over the internet. Very sad and shocking to find out they had passed on a while back (and too young!).

@much2say I'm happy your sister can somewhat control it now. I'm going to do the same as her when and if it ever happens again. To be honest, it happened so suddenly. I felt a mild headache, and when I walked into the kitchen a few minutes later, I thought I was developing cataracts or something in both eyes. After a few blinks, my eyes cleared. I went upstairs to read and as soon as I opened to the first page of the book, the lights flashed. Anyway, it's now a thing of the past. I hope it never happens again, but if it does. Thanks. It came as a huge shock to find out about her passing. You know exactly what I mean. It caused such a physical and emotional shock to me.

Sounds like a bad headache and not a migraine. Migraine has different symptoms. I have no experience with it but I have heard that it starts localized with one side of head giving the trouble. And when there is an attack it stays for a couple of days before subsiding down. Happy that you are over it now

@DianneN Most migraines are on one side of the head, but you had an aura, which sounds like a migraine. Since it obviously isn't a tension headache, I'd definitely call it a migraine.

@DianneN They are. The only time I saw stars was when I was cycling up a ramp, missed left before the jump, and landed on the back of my head. I landed on my visual cortex, which is in the occipital lobe. This was before concussions were diagnosed regularly. It was a weird experience.
