Keeping up with the jones, dealing with the pandemic

October 12, 2020 5:33pm CST
I was not going to write about the pandemic. Today I looked on my Facebook page and memory of one the festivals I went to last year came up. It made me sad and afraid. It should of been a happy memory and for a fleeting moment it was. Then the reality of this situation sits in. Where I live is very dependent upon tourism. Millions of dollars have been lost. Our state has one of the highest unemployment rates. Masks have become a new accessory. I was rebelling against it wearing only the blue hospital looking ones until a millennial, friend of mine said, girlfriend I appreciate your rebellious spirit but you sell clothes. Image is everything in this country no matter how hard we try and deny it. Probably other countries too. I wonder about that. I know Paris and Italy have to be similar in our keeping up with the Jones attitude. I was a licensed nail tech in Florida and even during the great depression the beauty industry managed to stay at 4 in ranking of industry's. I broke down and bought one. Of course it doesn't fit right. Now I'm looking for another one which the average cost of one that isn't plain Jane is $25. to $30. I keep telling myself okay this is just going to be 2020 memorabilia. I know why people look down on other people. Its to make themselves feel better. For a while I was ignoring the looks but the fact is I have to represent myself and no one wants to buy anything from someone that looks like they need money. Okay as you can tell, I can type fast. Why do you suppose people do that? If I know someone needs money and is selling stuff and I can afford it I buy it. At a yard sale I was at I heard people trying to get this lady to lower her prices. I wanted to say for F sakes its only $2. What about it, do you think that there is in end in site or is the new world order? Thank you for stopping by.

I am Italian, we live less than 5 miles from the Italian border, I often cross the border to do some shopping. I was depressed when the border were closed and we could not go there. After so many problems Italians now respect the rules, they wear the mask even outside, it is still mandatory now because the virus is still there.

My husband was born near Lucca Italy. I am hoping next year this insanity is over and we can visit his ancestral home.

@DearAphrodite Lucca, Tuscany, my favorite Italian region. I was born in Milan, as well as my husband. I wanted to ask if your last name was Italian, it sounded Italian.

Yeah I found out two festivals that I liked were canceled. One town is doing a facebook live festival thing which I'm going to see this weekend. I wear neck gaiters and the disposable masks. The neck gaiters I bought on Amazon. I bought them to wear to church so I can play my clarinet.

All of the shutdowns have hit the country hard. No one is going to argue and try and say it hasn't, when in fact, it has. Many states are still in phase one or two of re-opening, and those in phase 3 (like Florida) still have to allow each city and each county to do its own thing. Because that's the country we live in. That being said, I have never been one to care about the image or what everyone else thinks of me. I have yet to wear a mask and don't plan on ever dawning one. I will not live in a bubble, but I also will not put on a mask and take a serious risk to my health either. That being said, the decision to wear a mask, should be based on personal preference and what risk, if any, wearing one is to the person wearing it. If you choose to wear a mask, wear what's most comfortable, not what other people think.

The whole world felt the effects of the pandemic. Some businesses were closed because of the fall back of the sales. Some employees were layed out rom their work because employers can't pay them back. People around the world , from all walks of life experienced the same too.As they can say this is a trying time for everyone. The only way I can think of for this virus to stop spreading is yo just follow all saety guidelines of our country and being prepared at all times.Material things is easy to be replaced but life is not .
