Well, that is just what I say when something ends permanently that was around for a very long time. Way back in 1969 the comedian well-known for his line "I don't get no respect" Rodney Dangerfield and Anthony Bevacqua opened the comedy club Dangerfield's in New York City. It was on First Avenue and E.61st Street in Manhattan, A lot of popular comedians appeared at the club like Roseanne Barr and Jim Carrey.
The club had a very long run of 50 years and finally got laid low by the pandemic. Weighed down by great financial burden the club is finally closing its doors. However, all is not lost and this club hopes to eventually reopen in a different location.
Why am I writing about Dangerfiled's? Well, I think of this club just the same as I think of myself. We are now both two old NYC memories. Way back at the time of my high school prom after the dance was over we all climbed into a great big black limousine and wound up at Dangerfield's. That night Rodney Dangerfield himself was onstage and if I close my eyes I can still see the darkness all around and me next to my boyfriend in a booth quite close to the stage.
The comedian himself passed on in 2004 and my boyfriend sadly too passed on in 2019. So many changes and people and places come and go too quickly. With some hope, I looked up the place we went to after the club the Hawaii Kai that served those umbrella cocktails and everything all around made you think you were in Hawaii. That is closed too and boy, do I suddenly feel old or ancient even.

I hate to hear that. I was never there, but I know the importance of Dangerfield's to stand-up comedy.

I have never been there, nor have I heard it. However, I've seen a lot of places go, too. Some of them were gone before I even realized they existed. Just last week, a new dollar store had a closing soon announcement. It apparently couldn't compete with business in the plazza.

Such good memories. Sadly many places have not been able to survive the pandemic.

May the comedic performer's, and genuinely funny at that, legend stays on. So, sad that the Chinese covid caused the club to close in the now failing Manhattan New York city.
