Kitty is getting used to certain things that used to bother her. Did your cats do the same?

Kitty was sleeping by the open front door yesterday when the leaf blower came on outside. Two weeks ago she would have run for the closet. But this time she just looked at me (I said "leaf blower" in a reassuring voice) and then went back to sleep. Have your kitties gotten un-afraid of former Scary Monsters? I'll see if she can handle the garbage truck. That's really loud. If I can find it, I'll attach a picture of Kitty in the closet.

Freckles never got used to things like thunderstorms or fireworks, but she did get used to asking me to go into the hallway to hold her during the noise. She acted a lot like a cat, for a dog.

@TheHorse —what kind of dog was she? SPOILED! Mixed, with quite a bit of beagle. And yep, that’s her. She was so much prettier than I am.

@FourWalls Our fur friends SHOULD be spoiled! Her coloration reminds me of my brother's border collies.

What kind of dog was she? I take it that's her in the picture?

That is good that she is adjusting to normal things in her environment. My dog, a German Shephard, is afraid of the x-turn mower. When hubby cranks it up, he runs for his doghouse. Now he can start the weedeater up and and go all around his doghouse and the tree there and he is just fine.

@TheHorse I don't know if it is the noise or the machine moving by itself?? He is a skittish boy since he was born during the flood of 2016 and had to be rescued. It takes him a long time to warm up to new people. He took an instant liking to my oldest daughters best friend. She loved him and wanted him, but I couldn't part with the little guy. I do know if I ever have to rehome him, she will be first choice.

It's been years since I've lived with a cat, so I don't remember, but one of my horses is definitly getting used to things. When he came, he hated being washed. He'd dance around when I tried to wash his feet. Now it's quite OK, as long the water isn't too cold. He doesn't mind wind or snow or sleeth or hail, but too cold water when washing his feet is not OK.

@TheHorse I've washed his mane and face once this autumn, that was clearly wrong according to him. The other one thinks it's quite OK, but he'll get very busy trying to catch the water in his mouth.

Heh. Each horse is different! My girl loved getting a hose bath. But she hated it when water got on her face.

I don't have a cat now but did for years, many cats in fact. They are just as peculiar as dogs. Each has its own personality and weirdness. Kitty is learning to trust yous even if she doesn't know what things are for.

I did the same with my horse. I'd just "label" scary monsters in a calm voice, and she got used to them after awhile.

@TheHorse Ah, that is great. It probably is not fun to deal with a panicked horse.

@akalinus My horse was usually pretty level-headed. But I've worked with some pretty quirky ones.

I actually have the heater on right now. It's quite chilly outside. Kitty just groomed for awhile and then jumped on the bed. I think it's time for her morning power nap.

Never had a cat. I am more of a dog person, though don't have dogs either. Maybe the cat got used to the sound.

Cute picture. We always had dogs. When they were afraid of something, they stayed afraid of it....Thunderstorms were my poor Olaf's worst nightmare.

Kitty just woke up with a start to the sound of my neighbor cleaning off his windsurfing board (think high pressure water sound). But when she saw me, I meowed, and then said "water." She went right back to sleep.
