The Games We Played

There were 9 of us in our family: 7 boys, 2 girls. Although technically, the oldest one had already gotten married by the time I was 5 years old. So there were 8 of us in the house while I was growing up. On a day when we were stuck inside the house together, we had to do stuff to keep ourselves occupied. There was no such thing as video games. But we played board games, card games, checkers and Chinese checkers, dominoes, put together puzzles, and if all we had was paper and a pencil, we played Tic Tac Toe to the death!! LOL . What kind of indoor games did you play when you were growing up? If you're in the video game generation, do you have a favorite game? My kids have a bazillion games but they really like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

Door to door was always fun. We also played with cut out dolls and made houses using their clothes. We played church with the kitchen chairs and board games and puzzles too. I was surprised when my kids were young that cut outs weren't still a thing. My favorite video game we played as a family once I was a parent is riven. It's interactive.

You sound like you and I grew up in the same house. I forgot about cut-out dolls and playing church.

@cmoneyspinner lol. I was the oldest of four girls including myself and two brothers. There was ten years difference between me and the youngest.

Your tic tac toe is our noughts and crosses I believe. We played similar games to you.

@cmoneyspinner Well that's what the game is called. And that word is in quite common usage over here, both as a zero and as 'nothing'.

I used to love tic tac toe. I don't remember having any board games. But I did play Monopoly when I was at my cousin's house. I used to play card games, mainly the Russian card game Durak. Translated into English I think it's Fool.

I am much more interested in board games than when I was younger. Can't remember what we used to do on those distant, bad weather days!

Checkers, Chinese Checkers and card games. When there was nothing else, we put together puzzles.
