"So, Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn."
This verse is from the New Testament, of the Christian Bible, and is found in Saint John's gospel, chapter 21, verse 11.
God values numbers, and a lot of significant numbers are used in the Bible.
The number, "3" is used often. Think of the Holy Trinity.
God created the world in 7 days, but rested on the last day, to show that even in his creation of infinite numbers, from his oneness, his oneness still was there.
The number 153 is interesting though, why that particular number?
This number has a trinity of numbers within it too.
It is made up of 3 numbers (1,5, and 3).
It is only one of four numbers in the whole number system to have this quality about it too. (The other numbers are 370, 371, and 407)
The number 153 equals itself, when we get each number making it up, and cube it, then add them together.
1x1x1 =1 + 5x5x5 = 125 + 3x3x3 =27
1 + 125 + 27 = 153.
also if we sum all of the number from 1 to 17,
(1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12+13+4+14+15+16+17)
these add up to the number 153 too.
Now there were ten commandments given out to man originally, and God took 7 days to build his world, so 10 + 7 is 17 too.
Also, the 1, in 153 represents God, or oneness.
The 3 represents the trinity.
And the 5 represents the number of loaves that Jesus multiplied in the Bible too, as well as if we add the number 5 to the number of disciples (12), that Jesus had that is the number 17 too, not to mention that in the miracle of multiplying the fish and the loaves, there were 12 baskets of food scraps, left over too.
So, the whole world works because of this link to numbers.
Numbers are God's time-clock.
In our own lives, numbers can often also play a significant part too.
For example, in my own life, I am 13 years older than my wife, and I am also 13 years older than my sister. They are not the same age though, but they have similar personalities. My mother was 26 years old when she had me. (13 +13)
My Uncle was born in 1926, and he died 62 years later (26 reversed). When he was 31, I was born. When he died, I was 31 (half of 62).

I am sure Jesus would have performed many more miracles since then too, though.
Number 4 is related to creation, but more so, in other religions, which talk about:
The four important elements of creation, which are: earth, air, fire, and water.

@Shiva49 Yes, it is strange to me, why love isn't included in some philosophical systems at all, when as you say, and I agree with, love is the binding element, the life force, behind all else.

I hated maths when I was at school! But I've always been fascinated by the significance of numbers in the bible. 12 tribes of Isreal, 12 disciples. And I love how God organised the universe. He created the earth in 6 days, rested on the 7th and we have a 7 day week. There was an experiment once to have a 10 day week but it didn't work - why? Because 7 is the number of perfection and 7 days makes a perfect week.

Yes, the use of numbers is all through the Bible.
The number 40, is also mentioned a lot. Moses was 40 years in the desert. Jesus was tempted for 40 days.
The number 3 is probably the most important one.
Jesus spent 3 days and 3 nights on the cross, as same as which Jonah spent inside the whale.
It's a funny comparison to make. I wonder what the significance of comparing one event to the other meant.
I do not think that Jesus had a whale of a time on the cross!

One number that confuses me a bit is 666 the number of the beast. Why 666? Why not 555 or 777? What is the significance of 666?

@sharonelton Another commentator here says that the number 6 is related to man, so 666 might be the triple whammy of a man, the fallen angel, Satan, who rules man and the Earth for now.
The Bible mentions 666, as the "Number of the Beast", in Revelations, chapter 13, verse 18:
"This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666."

Thank you this was very interesting. I know that once I calculated my birth number and my soul mates birth number and it was interesting to note that they were very close. In fact a very interesting thing happened recently I was going over some old notes and I found the calculations I had done for the birth number and my soul mate must have been reminding me of this for some reason because the calculation for his number was no longer in my handwriting but in his as if my some magic or something but it was great to see his handwriting,

Yes, it's strange sometimes how things you would not expect to match up do match up because of something we did not know, and at other times, like with soul mates, the numbers match, even as you might expect that they should too.
I was born on a Thursday, and when l checked my Dad's date of birth, he was born on the same day as me too, also on a Thursday.
There used to be an old nursery rhyme that describes the type of person you are, if born on a certain day of the week, and Thursday matches both myself, and my Dad too.
We both had the same life path number 4 too.

@innertalks A lot of people have studied the relationships of numbers to various things, like to feelings, emotions, even to consciousness.
Scientology has a tone scale of emotions. David Hawkins has one for consciousness.

Quite interesting research on numbers.
I know of a few who are fascinated with numbers and try to figure out some co-relation as you have done here.
That reminds me of none other than Shakantala Devi.
Her daughter told that she would have loved to have had a semblance of that gift.
In a way, God passes down some of his gifts to a select few to tell others of the possibilities and our potential.
We need to rack/wrack our brains but I worry about wrecking it in that process!

Yes, l am often "angry" (or disappointed, at least) that God didn't put enough brains in my head either.
I would have liked to have had something special about me, a healing ability, a chess prodigy, but no, l am just an average Joe, it seems.
At least, l can talk here about love, as l imagine, that it should really be lived from.
