Short Story: The unforeseen dangers of numerology

The master numerologist, Ekhart Numerosa, had been a numerologist for over 40 years.
He thought that he was an expert at this practice, having even written a book, or two, on it, too.
One was treated as "the Bible" of numerology, as it seemed to be so inclusively detailed, and authoritatively written, that it was used as a textbook, and reference book, by most other numerologists too.
But then, there was a man that came to see him for a numerology reading, late in the master's career.
Ekhart calculated his numbers, his life path number, and his name number, to begin with.
(To find your Life Path number, you add together the numbers for the MONTH + DAY + YEAR, of your day of birth, and then you keep digit summing the numbers, to reduce the number, to a one-digit number.)
(Your name number is found by finding the number from your name obtained by matching the letters in your name with numbers, and done in a certain way too, similar to the life-path number.)
(These numbers are the life-blood numbers of numerology, which are said to depict your personality, and other traits about you, that you carry with you in this birth.)
Now, Ekhart's expertise had gone to his head, and this great old man, once a real master, added some numbers of his own into the mix too.
He added on a number that he called, a "love number".
Using this number, we can calculate our affinity with our partner in life, as in our marriage partner, for example, he would tell his clients.
Now, it has been variously argued that the calculated numerology numbers do mean something, and that the study of numerology is not just a total pseudoscience.
But, to connect numbers to feelings might be seen as being a bit of a stretch at times.
This old master did know that there were various tone scales of feelings and emotions, and even consciousness, that other people had created before, but he wanted to use his new "love" number to calculate a person's position on this emotional scale, where love is at the top, as a number too.
He also called this "love" number your "feeling levels" number too.
He claimed that it could be calculated by adding the numbers of our life path number to our name number, and then see what the totalled number is there, and then compare this newly found "love" number to the emotional tone/consciousness scale, as is generally listed.
Here is a simplified form of this tone scale, or consciousness scale:
0 is dead, 1 is basic feelings of survival, 2 is instinctiveness/reactiveness, 3 is the normal human situation, 4 is becoming more mindful, 5 is spiritual, inquiring, 6 is becoming less fearful, and cerebrally consciously aware, 7 is becoming an adept, 8 is being love/loving, as much as possible, 9 is God-consciousness, in a human, and 10 is God himself.
Nobody else can reach 10, of course.
A street beggar is usually placed at around 2, on this scale, for example, or sometimes, even as a 1.
Some other more stretched out scales show this top level of consciousness of God's at infinity.
The problem was though, that this man, John, who had come to him for a reading, was calculated to have a "love" number of only 1, as well.
This upset him, as he had thought that he was at least a little more spiritually advanced, as he was at least interested in growing his knowledge in this area.
He became greatly depressed, and he committed suicide, as a direct result of this bad reading, given to him by this so-called expert on numerology.
This just shows us that we should never take these things at face value.
They perhaps are nothing in reality, but mere party tricks of charlatans, in most instances, as was proven here.

Can you spot a charlatan in his garb?

anything human will fall short of the love needed to understand.

Thanks, Scott. That is a very perceptive remark, and I agree with you there.
Any human system can only go partway at best to try to explain how things work.
And as love is behind all systems, no system can match love, so ever work as well as God's system of love works.

Numerology is a bit of pseudo science for me as more peddle it to earn a living.
Yes, some are already on the brink and they can well be pushed downhill by the charlatans looking for an easy prey.
I have seen a few telling their clients to change their names by adding an alphabet, changing the position of furniture, even move to another house, to an extent they come under the thumb of supposed numerologists.
I try to keep a safe distance even before the present virus onslaught from these charlatans as I have no way to verify their expertise.
Thanks for the consciousness scale and I hope I am not putting myself on a high pedestal by thinking I am at number 8.

Yes, most of these types of systems, numerology, astrology, card-reading, divination, etc, are open to charlatans, or to bogus operators, and though some might actually possess some inner insight that allows them to get something focussed through these instruments, I too, would rather steer clear of them, but I like reading up on them, just the same, just to get some ideas about them, before I can them completely.
Dreams, are in the same basket, a sort of interpretative tool that can be useful at times, and so I like to keep all possible tools in my garden shed, rather than throw any away, as they could be useful to me one day, giving me an insight, which I might not otherwise have gotten.

@Shiva49 Yes, he was right into writing charts for different events, like elections etc. I wonder what his chart would have looked like for the coronavirus.
Yes, each piece of the puzzle is buried in a different place, and each piece has duplicates of itself spread around too, so we might well find one such piece hidden somewhere in the writings of numerology, or Judaism, for example.

@innertalks I recall Steve Kinsman putting up detailed charts on astrology on Wikinut.
He had to face negative comments though.
What we think are meaningless to us can one day suddenly pique our interest due to our changed outlook.
There are wheels within wheels in creation and sticking to the superficial leaves us with a shallow journey here.
I also like your inquisitive pursuit on various beliefs and thoughts and I too am like that.
The truth is all over the place and not hidden in a cave or the preserve of a privileged few.
