Precious Memory Of A...

My white pony, my white pony, Well he never belonged to me He was a colliery pit pony Working many hours down a coal mine They used to tie him to the fence At the bottom of our garden Big stretches of field used to be there In the sun you would feed off the long grass Roll over and move up and down I can see him like it was today Looking at him through the bathroom window Lying down long warm grass and in the bright sun I loved your carefree freedom I would go to the bottom fence Although I could not reach you properly You move your head up and down As soon as you saw me Remembering you very clearly like it was today. This is about a white colliery pit pony they were called so because they used to work down underground in the deep coal mines that were later closed down. I used to love watching him feed off the grass in the sun or whatever. I felt a strong closeness to him but like I say he was never mine but its sort of like he was for a time at least anyway.

I enjoyed reading this but why was he tied up? Couldn't he roam free in the field?

He belonged to someone since I was only five I can only think that because of him being able to run off as there was a main road near to this. The old mainroad still runs through Wolverhampton and we lived very close to it.

@jaboUK It was a field yes but not that big either. He was getting the fresh air he needed yes no wonder he was happy being there.

It's nice that he was brought to the surface to enjoy the sun and fresh air. Some spent most of their lives underground.
