It's dinky!

Remember me talking about the pedal frame bike that I have? It's nothing more than a frame with pedals on it. You sit the frame in front of you and put your feet on the pedals. The pedals have a strap attached so that your feet do not slip out. I thought I had gotten rid of it, but I hadn't. Well today I chose to see what it was all about again and remembered why I don't use it. It's dinky! Sure you can change the resistance of the pedals but it's an awkward piece of equipment. I was not comfortable using it and I was sitting on my bed! Oh well, I will just have to remember to get rid of it the next time I make a goodwill donation run. In the mean time, I am saving up for and considering an exercise bike that can be folded and stored away.

I was considering getting one of those. Maybe now I won't.

It wouldn't be comfortable to use, atleast it wasn't for me. I think even sitting in a recliner, it would be awkward to use.

@LindaOHio You are welcome. What about one of those step stool things for exercise? You just step on and off of it. We used to have one of those and one of these.. Well, it was like a gas and bake predal almost. It was an air compressed step climber.

it sounds like an annoying piece of equipment. I have a mini stair stepper in the other room that friend dropped off here sometime. I should get that out and take a look at it, if I don't like it, I could always sell it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I would really like to have a treadmill. The only problem is they are so heavy. Former roomie had one...I should have offered to buy it from him when he moved.

@snowy22315 They have treadmills now that are just the bottom part. I don't know that having just the bottom part would make it any less heavy though.

We used to have about five or six different exercise equipment but I sold a lot of that several years ago. I considered buying another stair stepper or one of those air compressed stair stepper things but I doubt I'd use it very much. An exercise bike is more my style.

I have an exercise bike that I use almost every day, it does not take a lot of space, it's downstairs in the basement.

I know I'd use an exercise bike every day, we just have so little room here because of the hoarders I live with.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Downstairs, I arranged the basement adding shelves, so I have enough space for the bike.

Amber, at a bike store they sell a mechanism that fits onto the back tire of a regular bike. It turns any bicycle into a stationary bike!

Thanks for letting me know. Of course, I no longer have a regular bike. It's still worth checking into though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Pricewise, it might be cheaper.

We just bought one of the fold-up types. It doesn't fold down very far and we are just leaving it set up. (Blocking a doorway we hardly use. It works very well except for the folding option.

That is something I am worried about.. I know sometimes the folding option doesn't fold as well as you had anticipated or it's hard to fold. I've been looking at several options on amazon. I have a spot in my closet I can put it away.

@cperry2 This is true. It's like the new shiny toy affect has worn off. I'm worried that might happen to me too.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The fold-up option was a must for us, we don't have a lot of space, but as it turns out not much help. but With it up all the time, we use it every day. If it were folded up and put away, I think we would soon forget about it. So, maybe it is a good thing.

I had one of them. It was going to make me lose weight and I would become a cyclist. I tried using it but it wouldn't sit properly on the floor. And the straps were too small for my feets. I threw it out as I tried to give it away and nobody wanted it.

I wasn't even the one that bought this one. It's hardly been used since it was bought a few years ago. We used to have a shop that you could sell / buy work out equipment from but am not sure if it's still there. Doubt they'd take this anyway.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I doubt they would. Waste of time. My dad's wife bought it. She was a wheel chair user and this thing was in a medical aides magazine. She tried it once, and gave it to me. Her feet couldn't get into the pedal things as her feet pointed at weird angles and her legs wouldn't allow for her to pedal. I must admit I laughed when I saw her try to use it, and so did she!!

@JimBo452020 I can't believe it was in a medical aides magazine!

I was gifted one of those many years ago. One of the rubber feet that keeps the unit from slipping was missing. I thought I could manage without it, but after wrenching my ankle when the unit slipped, I tossed it into the donation box.

Ouch that's painful and sounds exactly like something that would happen to me!

I hope so too. Yes, I prefer exercise equipment with a seat, or atleast something that I can grab onto something like the handles of a treadmill.

That's a good idea. It can be keep in a small space too, which is pretty convenience. Maybe I should try to look for one. Hmmm.

There are a lot of different types of stationary bikes that fold. I found a few that even have the heart monitor attached to it too.

It is much better if you will be standing than sitting. I think those equipment are for those who cannot stand up and do exercise for a long time like really the old ones

I think you are most likely right. I do want to get an exercise bike one day though. Just so I can have it when I do not feel like walking.

@rakski Yes, walking outside can offer more resistance (hills and slight inclines), but having a bike or treadmill is perfect for rainy days.

@ScribbledAdNauseum true. It is better to have an exercise bike or treadmill but it is still nice to walk outside

My daughter had an exercise bike that couldn't be folded and put away. It was awful and bulky!
• United States

They are terribly bulky, aren't they? The ones that can be folded and put away look so slim in comparison. We used to have one that was not only bulky but LOUD! You could hear someone on the bike from the other end of the house!

@ScribbledAdNauseum The seat on my daughter's exercise bike was terribly uncomfortable! No matter how it was angled, sitting on it was awful. The frame was bulky, made of steel and it took up too much space.

@kobesbuddy A nice cushiony seat would sell better, I think. I remember the bike we had was the same. It had the banana type seat and was hard on the bum after only a few minutes!

Is that bike still works? Sounds very uncomfortable, so it's good for you to donate them, maybe any people out there still need that stuff.

It's still operational but it's not something I'll ever use. I will donate it when I can.
