And now comes the head scratcher. Here, amid these favorite Scottish musicians countdown that I'm doing to celebrate @Jimbo452020 , is someone who doesn't fit my "narrative" in terms of country music! Yeah, that's the fun thing about life, isn't it. Here's today's Scot on the list.
#5: Bon Scott
And, like a few others on the list already (and another couple forthcoming), you're thinking, "Scottish????"
Yes, AC/DC was formed in Australia. Australia claims AC/DC as their own. But Bon Scott wasn't the only Scottish-born member of AC/DC. The Young brothers, Angus and Malcolm, were also originally from Scotland and, like Bon's family, emigrated to Australia.
I'm not much of an AC/DC fan, but the songs of theirs I do like are from the Bon Scott era.
It was 40 years ago that Scott died of asphyxiation after drinking too much, leaving the future of the band in doubt. They recruited a new lead singer and went on to success so massive that, to many younger fans, Scott is an afterthought. Not for me.
High voltage Bon Scott!!
Bon Scott
Born Ronald Belford Scott
July 9, 1946
Forfar, Angus
Died February 19, 1980 (asphyxiation)
Lead vocalist/songwriter for AC/DC
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 2003
Only Bon Scott could make bagpipes a serious rock & roll instrument!
