This countdown celebrates Scotland and our Scottish myLotter @Jimbo452020 ! If you know me, and know these guys are Scottish, you probably know the top four. But if you don’t, I’ll continue the countdown. Here’s today’s Scottish musician. #4: Mark Knopfler Maybe he impresses me a lot because he plays without a pick. Whatever, I think Mark Knopfler has one of the most melodic guitar styles in rock and roll. And not just rock and roll. He won a Grammy for the album he did with country guitar maestro Chet Atkins (Neck and Neck). In fact, when Dire Straits broke up, Knopfler formed a group called the Notting Hillbillies (cute pun), who released an album of country covers! All of that...and the second-best song about a jazz act (“Sultans of Swing”) from the 70s! (The best was “Deacon Blues” by Steely Dan.) Mark Knopfler, OBE Born Mark Freuder Knopfler August 12, 1949 Glasgow Guitarist/songwriter/singer for Dire Straits Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 2018 One of my favorite Dire Straits songs:
Dire Straits live in Rockpalast - Cologne, Germany. Februari 16th 1979. Now in HD! =) Enjoy!

I love his voice too, but his guitar work is so exceptional I think of all his other talents afterwards!

I'm sorry but I think us English will have to claim him. He was born in Glasgow but his family moved to Blyth, a coastal town near Newcastle (my home town) in the North East of England, when he was aged 7.
