Ulysses Hounding the Island of Luzon.

I woke up with the winds howling, my neighbor's roof guard rattling, a piece of wood falling in my backyard. I listened some more, the rain dropping hard and thick, as if there is no foreseen reprieve from the clear and present danger. I thought, 'Ulysses has come, with the force of a raging hero lost and desperate, unleashing his power, to get home to his Penelope.'
I whispered, 'Go away, Ulysses, this is not your turf. Carry your case with Neptune, and depart from my island of Luzon.'
I willed myself to rise slowly, wary of what I'd see. A pool of water in my kitchen, a flue from somewhere under, and a leak from the ceiling for another.
Sigh! A cup of coffee first, to mobilize the muscles for the mandatory mopping. The news was devastating! Dams have been opened, the rivers have been overran. The people are drenched on top of the houses, a young lad held on a driftwood as the floodwater carried him to nowhere safe.
The waters are still overflowing as of this writing. 'Go away, Ulysses, my countrymen are drowning.'

Nicely written report on what is happening around. As usual my concern is focused on my father. They were again the first to receive the brunt of the storm although he noticed the typhoon is not as strong as the previous one but this time it move so slowly that the rains drenched the area and flooding many parts of the province. Their electric power was just restored the other night but it was again cut off as many post are again toppled down.
My experience of the typhoon was not that worrying since we live on 4th floor so flooding is not our problem. The firewall that blocks us from sunlight has somehow help us not feel the strong wind blowing outside but we could hear the whistling sound. We had no power since 1am so we were just observing what is happening around good thing the condo has generator so we enjoy light at least but all other appliances are not working. By 12 noon power was back again so we’re relieved to know that.

@eileenleyva Quick update from my father. He just reported that their power has just been restored.
. He was surprised that it was quite quick and they were anticipating that another week but they were able to restore power this soon. After that internet was restored so he was again happy that it’s nearly back to normal and he could sleep well tonight
.

@rsa101 I do love the old who have weathered the downpour, pliant like the bamboo against the howling winds. I am sure your father has many stories and I wish you could write the stories of your old man. It's not just the story of your father, it's the story of our people.

That is also a nice narration of your Ulysses experience. I am glad you are safe. I knew you would be protected because you've just been through a harrowing one. An added admiration to your old man, he knew how to cower and weather the storm. Kudos, truly. Send that to your father, tell him he has a fan.

We've been humbled! Sigh. Our wicked ways have angered our God. He allowed the floods to overflow, and the winds smash us.

@eileenleyva I hope the day is better and your country can recover. I have read that 240,000 people have lost their home, this is so sad. I hope you can get International help.

Yup, I did hear the winds hooting before I went to bed. Shut close all my jalousies and drew the curtains. The electricity fluctuated but the power stayed. I didn't expect the strength of the storm, despite the warning signal on level 3. The volume of water was much like the tropical depression of 2009.
The Sierra Madre was dredged, that is why we have flashfloods. Sigh.
Do keep safe.

@rakski Let us do all we can to aid our fellow Filipinos cringing in despair, shocked, hapless, and hungry. Give what we can share - clothes, towels, food. If unable - just send through G-cash, through Red Cross or the Office of the Vice-President, or Caritas Manila.

Thank you. Your concern is a source of comfort.
A terrible time again for my country, especially so that we have an absentee of a tyrant who is nowhere to be found when storms are at hand. We rely on the local governments, at least the mayors have provided food and shelter for the evacuees. The work, however, is overwhelming, all roads are under water.

Thank you. The storm is not over yet. Advisement been given - opening the floodgates in three hours. The dams couldn't hold the waters any longer. Asking for your prayers. My countrymen are drenched and chilled to the bones.

Thank you. I am safe and sound. My countrymen are not and am very worried for them. The rescuers had been impeded by the flashfloods and the raging river waters. We don't know if the waters would subside soon enough, the storm is still lashing through the central plain of the island.

@eileenleyva You might have to wait until the worst passes before rescuers can do their jobs and save lives.

@kaylachan Ulysses is gone. The people are on their feet, cleaning and reconstructing whatever is left of their dwellings. The donations are also currently being distributed.
The nightmare is over, I think. I hope.
Thank you.
