Gosh, am I late to the punch. My apologies in advance. The world over, all country's militaries, I say thank you to all who have served and made the commitment, if called, to make the ultimate sacrifice to their country. My dad was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy and served over 23 years before retiring. My sister served in the United States Air Force, and served over 10 years, even doing a tour in Iraq. And I served 4 years in the United States Navy on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). Thank you to all who served, and God Bless America. Yep, that's me in the upper right hand corner. I swear, you could have served soup in that damn sailor hat.

Seagulls also liked those hats and dive-bombed them often. Thank you for your service and that of your family. I've seen the USS Enterprise but couldn't tour it. It was off-limits. Nice looking ship. It was based at North Island San Diego. Or am I wrong on that?

Never had a problem with the seagulls dive bombing me (until I got into pest control, lol). But I could see where they might want to. Thank you as well for your service. Yep. Prior to when I was aboard, as she was at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Newport News, VA, she was a West Coast vessel. After we got out of the yards we transferred her to NAS Norfolk at Pier 11 South and she became an East Coast vessel for the remainder of her service. She was decommissioned in 2013. I served aboard her 1992-1996.

Salute, sailor! Your dad was an OS, I see. I was a yeoman, the most difficult job in the Navy: we babysat the officers. Thanks for the post, and thanks for your service!!!

Yes. He was. I believe when he first got in he was a Radarman, and then that rate was combined with some others into the OS rate. He ultimately went on to become an NC (Navy Counselor). I was a SH3 (SW). We didn't babysit the officers, but our job was to boost morale and keep the crew happy. Thank you for your service as well, shipmate.

Happy Veterans Day. My mom was born in 1933 and so she was a child in World War II. My grandfather was too old to be a fighter in the war. So he became a policeman to make sure the local streets were safe. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and so the Americans joined us in fighting Hitler.
