Job Update - Finally, A Good One...

.. . I think.
So, I got back to my previous job. They called me and I get to work for them although for a different account. Same service and product offered, just a different clientele. Used to handle Australian clients. Was moved to handling UK and South African clients and got dropped for a good two weeks. Got called again and this time, I have Asian clients. A definite plus is the schedule because I work 9:00am up to 6:00pm. Day-offs get moved but I can request which days to take. So far, I've only requested once because I want to be in the good graces of the manager. I've worked with these people before so it is fine.
Still working from home but that will change next week. We've been asked to report back to the office which is not cool. They explained the precautions and safety and health protocols that they will do but all of these are underwhelming to say the least. A lot of us employees have emailed the management about our reservations about returning to work on-site and it all fell on deaf ears.
I've gone ahead and ordered two sets PPE kits - those over-alls that frontline medical workers wear during their duty at hospitals. I'll be wearing those at work. Don't really care about what others will say. My protection comes first. Of course, it doesn't help that pubic transportation isn't readily available so I have to take a cab or use Grab. If I were to use Grab, I'd be spending half of my monthly salary on transportation expenses alone.
Again, I'm happy that I have work again but I guess the year 2020 continues to find ways to mess things up with complications and such

To some extent, I can understand why they would start to bring in employees to work on site. However, if such is the transportation situation, I wonder if they will offer a company vehicle to be used as a service for the employees? Or perhaps offer transportation allowance given that the employees will have to utilize an unconventional and oftentimes more costly mode of transportation.

They are not offering a shuttle service nor are they giving transportation allowance.

@Raine38 they want employees to at least try.
No empathy from them whatsoever.

@allen0187 that stinks. I think at least they will be assured that employees can get to work on time.

don't know if you'll be passing through the u-turn slots that have been closed to/from work. i had to pay much more when i rode a taxi last week and it was only 4 pm, and just a short distance.

Haven't been to the office since the lockdown but I did check the price in the Grab app. Very expensive!

@allen0187 I do not know what is the nature of your jobs is. But I think the business needs its people within reach that is why they are really trying to have work at site and not at home. Hope they would indeed comply with all that is required when working on site.

@rsa101 first day is in the books and no, the company did not comply with what is mandated by law.
In this day and age of digital communication, everyone is within reach regardless of where you are.

That is their claim. I'll see first-hand tomorrow. Honestly, I'm not expecting much from them with how they have handled things during this pandemic. It has always been company and management first. It has never been about the employees or the clients.

If there's no shuttle to work, then there should be some sort of transportation allowance. But you know how it goes. There might said we should be bless we still have a job instead of complaining. It's true, we feel bless. We really do! But we need to get all the money we can. That's why we come to work. That's not saving at all.

My thoughts exactly. I just have to save in other aspects or get additional income streams.

Believe me, I prefer to work from home but until I have another job to replace this one, I'll be working on-site in the meantime.

@allen0187 that's why I decline to go back to work when our company did not offer any transportation for us. I can't take risks

True but the risk involved doesn't seem worth it. We can all continue to work from home but not sure why management decided against it.
