I know this post is a couple of days late but Friday the 13th certainly lived up to its notorious reputation. We experienced back to back strong typhoons and it even flooded here in our area although not as bad as the other parts of Manila and the rest of the Philippines. The flood water almost got in my parent's home. Almost. For that I'm thankful. We opened the manholes in the street so the flood water would subside faster. That worked. Ultimately, when the rain stopped for a good thirty minutes or so, that is when the flood water stopped rising. Had it continued on to that time, flood water would have gotten in our home. That was Thursday, November12. Friday was altogether different issue. It was in the afternoon and I noticed a thick plume of smoke coming in my room. I initially though someone from the local homeowners association was doing some fumigating. I went down and checked. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. Other neighbors noticed the smoke too and said it was coming from beyond our village wall. I went upstairs again to my room and looked through the windows. It was confirmed. The smoke was indeed coming from one of the shanties beyond our village wall. It is an area of informal settlers. I reported the matter to the our neighbors who at that time gathered near the wall. They were already shouting and throwing rocks trying to catch the attention of our 'neighbors' from across the wall. No one was responding which was unusual. Then we heard an explosion. People started panicking. I was on my way to the other side of the wall when I saw one of our home owner association officers. He said that a bomb disposal unit was on the site. Someone reported finding vintage bombs and the bomb disposal unit was on-site to diffuse the bomb. Their idea of diffusing it was detonating it under controlled conditions. Not the smartest way to do it but what do I know about diffusing bombs? They are the experts. So everyone was advised about the matter and to exit their homes until after all three bombs were diffused. Three. Three vintage bombs in our neighborhood. Any Friday the 13th stories you guys want to share?

Short of me having a long day and feeling generally exhausted, Friday hadn't been as bad for me. I admit, I'm grateful for it of course. But, I know others had it worse.

Thelma in Germany had an unexploded bomb in their area too. It must be the season for them.

None, my Friday went the usual as any day else. But I am pretty glad for it. Yours was too much adventure and 'excitement'.

My goodness what were they doing with these bombs? What a terrible day that turned out to be. But no one was hurt? And the floods, you are bombarded. Thank God it did not come to you or parents. Good job on opening the sewers. Nothing here thank goodness.

What were they doing with these bombs? I have no idea. My guess is as good as yours. Yes, no one was hurt. I was glad that flood didn't get in my parent's house.

That is disturbing. How can these people think of doing this in time of calamity. Friday was rather normal for me, I guess. Well except there was a doomsday thought that kept nagging my mind and I haven't come of it until now.
