Finally bought hand soap refills

I needed to get a refill of hand soap that I use as I am getting low on it. It is cheapest at Target. It's sold there for $3.99. It is not available at my location. And all other stores I've looked at do not have it in stock either. I decided to just order it online.
I went to the Target website first as it's cheapest there. Turns out this soap is not available for shipping. If I wanted to get the soap at this price I'd have to go to another Target location. That would mean paying $5.50 to get there and back by bus and spending a long time commuting. It didn't make sense to get it from there.
I decided to go to Walgreens online and see if they have it in stock there. It was sold there but the price was $6.49. That is way more expensive than the Target price of $3.99 but as I am getting low on it I decided to get it anyway, especially since they offered free shipping.
I ended up buying two refills instead of one. I got a discount of $1.30 off my order so that means each bottle came out to $5.84. However, since I also had to pay $1.04 in taxes, it seems like I only saved 26 cents in the end. Better than nothing I guess.
I wonder why there is such a big difference in price for the same exact item...

It's crazy how places hike up prices for items when there is high demand.

@prinzcy I get that it is normal but prices have to increase within reason.

I find that too such big price differences and paying for shipping or money to get there is outrageous.

Everything is going up in price probably due the the virus and supply&demand. I spent over $700 last week between Costco and Stop&Shop. I just ordered again today for another $256. At this point, I'm just looking to get what I want and need and not worrying about saving money.

@DianneN I don't shop there often but I sometimes do. Some stuff there is much cheaper than in other places.

Wow! That is a lot of money. Why isn't Target selling stuff for ridiculous prices? Toilet paper there is not expensive.

I would have preferred to pay much less for the soap but at least now I will have it and it will last for a while. And I won't have to worry about it.

@lovebuglena right. Getting it is more important at that point.

Retailers are charging whatever the market will bear these days. The prices on disinfectant wipes and that sort of thing have gone sky-high. I wonder if the prices will ever get back to normal again?

It is just weird to me that Target can charge only $3.99 when other places are selling it for much higher. I found it online in retailers where the same exact size of the soap refill was sold for way more than I even paid for it.

@lovebuglena They charge as much for it as people will pay.

Of course but do they really have to raise prices so much...?

Exactly!!! Same thing but the price is almost double. Don't they buy it almost at the same price?
