Sacredness of Sadness

Do you cry? Why? Why do you cry? In the Gospel today, from Luke 19: 41-44, our Lord Jesus wept when He saw the city of Jerusalem because He knew of its impending destruction. He said, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace– but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” True enough, Rome destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD, and with it the Temple our Lord called His Father's house. One rare instance when our Lord wept. He shed tears of sadness, a very human act. Emotional tears - tears that spring from the heart. Considering the destruction of the world today, our Lord must be weeping again. That's the reason I was shedding tears the other day. I couldn't bear the wretched of the earth suffering. I do get emotional, too.

I think it is a very human reaction to shed tears especially when you see something that affects you and your environment. Well all share that emotion and shedding of tears. And I guess they are part of letting go of that emotion. I am just wondering if we don't have that ability to cry I think we all would die of heart attack controlling our fears and sadness.

Which makes our Lord Jesus fully Human, for He cried in desperation, anticipating the destruction of Jerusalem. He is crying now as He watches man destroys His Father's creation.

Thank you. I needed this today. My son has sown his own destruction and I am heartsick beyond measure, but it is actually the world that has fallen apart.

A mother's heartache is truly beyond measure. Pray for your son the parent's prayer - though a thousand may fall to the right of my child, a thousand may fall to the left of my child, no hale, no fire, no flood, no disease, no weapon ever made by man, and no evil could put my child down. Pray this over and over again. I will pray for you and your son tonight.
